Chapter 3: Even the Father-in-law Can Be Randomly Claimed?

The group of punks exchanged looks, then burst into laughter.

“What are you laughing at? He really is my dad!” Shen Li shouted, both angry and anxious.

“Haha, Shen Nan is your dad? Then I guess he’s my father-in-law too!” the blond punk laughed so hard he nearly doubled over.

Zheng Chuan was furious. Damn it, Shen Nan really was his father-in-law! How could someone just randomly claim that?

“Enough nonsense, Hu Zi, stop talking to them. Break this guy’s legs now. If we don’t, who’s going to take our biker gang seriously anymore?” Brother Fei waved his hand.

“Hold him down. Kid, I’m warning you, don’t resist,” Hu Zi said with a perverse grin. “The more you resist, the more excited I get.”

Hu Zi rubbed his hands together and looked at Zheng Chuan with a twisted expression.

Zheng Chuan frowned. This guy was definitely not straight. He couldn’t let him get close—he had to remain pure for his wife. If this creep even touched him, he’d feel filthy.

He gripped the baseball bat tightly, ready to fight, when suddenly, more than ten cars roared down the road toward them.

The lead vehicle was a Mercedes G-Class, and the line of cars came to a steady stop along the roadside. A crowd of people stepped out.

“Brother Fei, look! Isn’t that G-Class from the Jincheng Group? Five 8s on the plate—that’s Boss Shen’s car!”

“And the guy up front—isn’t that Boss Shen himself?”

Afei froze. Surrounded by men in black, a man in his forties walked forward with a stern expression, exuding the kind of authority that didn’t care about anyone.

“It really is Boss Shen. I’ve finally seen him in person,” Afei muttered in awe.

Their so-called biker gang was really just a bunch of flashy street kids with modded motorcycles and barely enough gas money.

A figure like Shen Nan? They normally wouldn’t even get a chance to meet him.

“Boss Shen! I’m Afei! I’m one of Brother Biao’s guys!” Afei hurried over nervously, trying to make conversation.

But one of the black-clad men raised his hand and stopped him.

Shen Nan walked directly toward Zheng Chuan and Shen Li. Seeing his daughter safe, he finally relaxed.

“Dad…” Shen Li called out in a choked voice, tears filling her eyes.

That one word sent Afei’s soul flying—his legs trembled, and he nearly collapsed.

“Are you okay?” Shen Nan asked.

Shen Li shook her head and ran up to hug him, sobbing uncontrollably.

“As long as you’re safe,” Shen Nan said softly, then gritted his teeth, “This matter definitely has something to do with Yu Laojiu from the north side of the city.”

“If anyone dares touch my daughter, Shen Nan, I’ll make sure they regret it.”

“Dad, this is Zheng Chuan. He saved me.” Shen Li wiped her tears and pointed to Zheng Chuan.

“Boss Shen.” Zheng Chuan greeted him, though his expression was complicated.

The man before him was both his father-in-law and the very person he had spent ten years gathering evidence against in order to send to prison.

When the police kicked in the door, Shen Nan had held it shut with his injured arm, urging him to run.

But in his previous life, he only focused on completing the mission and getting promoted. He had ignored all other reasons behind the case.

Right now, Shen Nan was still involved in shady business, but he wasn’t yet beyond redemption.

In fact, he was a loyal and righteous man.

So this time, Zheng Chuan would continue the same undercover mission, but with a new goal—to guide Shen Nan toward the right path.

After all, being reborn meant he had many more ways to make money.

It was 2005—e-commerce was just taking off, and the economy was booming.

Logistics, real estate, finance—it was all gold waiting to be mined.

What future was there in the underworld gang?

If he could gain his father-in-law’s trust and guide the Jincheng Group in the right direction, helping Shen Nan become a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, offering thousands of jobs—wouldn’t that be a better outcome?

“You saved Li? Good kid, not bad. What do you do now?” Shen Nan stepped forward and gave Zheng Chuan a pat on the chest.

“Boss Shen, I don’t have any family left. I studied at a technical school in the provincial capital and just graduated. I haven’t found work yet,” Zheng Chuan replied, using his previous undercover identity.

“Boss, we found three people. Looks like they were the kidnappers. One driver is dead, the other two are severely injured,” a cold-faced subordinate walked over and reported.

The man was called Qing She—Shen Nan’s most loyal right-hand man.

“You did it?” Shen Nan asked Zheng Chuan.

“Yes.” Zheng Chuan nodded. “I didn’t think too much at the time, just wanted to save her.”

“Good kid. Ruthless enough. Interested in joining our Jincheng Group?” Shen Nan lit a cigar.

“If there’s money to be made, I’m in,” Zheng Chuan said.

“Of course there’s money. Who joins the underworld gang without making money?” Shen Nan blew a smoke ring. “As long as you can endure hardship, I promise you’ll eat and drink well.”

“Then I’ll join.” Zheng Chuan nodded.

“Whether you can stay depends on your performance. You, take him around for a few days,” Shen Nan said with a laugh, pointing at Zheng Chuan. “I’ve got a good feeling about you.”

“Thank you, Boss Shen.” Zheng Chuan acted both grateful and surprised.

“Big Brother, the frozen shipment from Brazil has arrived,” Qing She reported after taking a call.

“Send someone to pick it up. Move fast—the customs checks have been strict lately,” Shen Nan ordered.

“Yes, Big Brother.”

“Boss Shen, I think it’s best not to go near the port with this shipment,” Zheng Chuan said suddenly, remembering something from his past life.

Back then, Shen Nan had smuggled a batch of frozen beef that was seized.

The shipment was huge—he lost at least 10 million yuan.

Yu Laojiu from the north used that opportunity to steal control of the southern port.

It caused the group’s cash flow to freeze and nearly broke the financial chain.

Shen Nan had always regretted that incident.

His father-in-law and Yu Laojiu had been mortal enemies all their lives.

Losing money was one thing. Losing face? That couldn’t be regained.

Since it came up, Zheng Chuan decided to give him a warning.

“Why?” Shen Nan turned his head with suspicion.

“Tianhai is currently running a special crackdown on smuggling. The checks are intense, and your southern port is under heavy scrutiny.”

“I think customs might be watching that spot closely.”

Zheng Chuan explained, “It’s possible that police and customs are already in place and just waiting for the ship to dock.”

“Kid, that southern port is run by our people. Everyone nearby works for us. If customs makes a move, we’ll know immediately,” Qing She said with disdain.

“Besides, the ship is almost at the dock. Every extra day on board adds to our cost. Have you calculated that?”

“But if customs seizes this shipment, one, we lose the goods and money. Two, someone will have to take the fall,” Zheng Chuan said.

“Three, it’ll mess with the group’s cash flow. Four, Yu Laojiu from the north will seize the chance to take the southern port. Do you know how much that chain reaction will cost?”

“You really think the port’s being watched?” Shen Nan looked at Zheng Chuan with interest.

“Why not call the port supervisor and ask?” Zheng Chuan suggested.

“Dad, make the call. It won’t take much time. If something really does go wrong, the loss would be even worse,” Shen Li said.

She glanced at Zheng Chuan, and their eyes met.

Zheng Chuan smiled at her.

Her face flushed, and she quickly turned away.

After a moment of thought, Shen Nan picked up his phone. “Old Third, is it windy tonight?”

“There’s a big storm tonight.”

The reply on the other end made Shen Nan’s expression change slightly.

Old Third was someone he trusted. They even had a secret code.

That kind of reply meant he’d been compromised and wasn’t acting of his own will.
