Chapter 1: Repay You? Are You Even Worthy?

“Qin Yi, get out here right now! Made a mistake and now you’re hiding in your room to avoid it?”

“Do you have any idea that your little brother nearly died because of you? Don’t you feel even the slightest bit of guilt?!”

The angry voice coming from outside the bedroom pulled Qin Yi’s consciousness back from his daze.

He opened his eyes and looked around. The room was small and plain, yet painfully familiar. Everything about it pricked at his nerves—especially the family photo placed on the nightstand.

The bedroom window wasn’t properly shut. A cold breeze blew in, and the frail, thin Qin Yi felt a chill seep into his bones.

It was the same kind of cold he had felt from the moment he was forced to undergo that surgery until the day he died—a cold without warmth, without a single person to care for him. He could only curl up alone in the dark, quietly waiting for death.

“I’m not dead?”

“Why am I back here again?”

“Could it be… I’ve been reborn?”

Qin Yi clutched his head in pain. The memories he had tried to forget surged uncontrollably as the familiar surroundings triggered his trauma like a flood bursting through a dam.

Seventeen years ago, he was born into the prestigious Qin family and should have lived a life of luxury. But due to an accident, he was taken away and ended up in the hands of a cruel couple, suffering years of domestic abuse.

Three years ago, that vile couple died in an accident, and he finally escaped that nightmare. At the same time, the Qin family managed to find him and brought him back to their home in Yunyan City.

Back then, Qin Yi had thought his life was finally about to change for the better. But he had no idea he was only being brought into another hell.

BANG!

Suddenly, the bedroom door was kicked open.

A tall, middle-aged man stormed in and began shouting at him without mercy:

“You little bastard! Your sister called you so many times from outside the door, and you didn’t even bother to answer. What the hell are you trying to pull?!”

“Why can’t you be more like your younger brother and act sensibly?”

“Do you have any idea how much he’s suffered because of you?!”

“Is this what I’ve taught you about how to be a decent person?!”

Qin Guojing’s wrinkled face was filled with fury, as if he wasn’t looking at his own son, but a stray dog by the roadside.

It had been more than ten years…

Ever since he returned to this household, Qin Yi, who longed for familial warmth, tried everything he could to please the blood relatives he had been separated from for so long. All he wanted was to fit into this family.

But all he received in return was exclusion and scolding.

All because the family had already taken in a replacement the year he was taken—Qin Xiaofeng.

This imposter took everything that should have belonged to Qin Yi and was showered with love and affection from the five sisters and their parents.

Meanwhile, Qin Yi, their real blood relative, not only received no compensation for his years of suffering, he wasn’t even allowed to publicly acknowledge his identity. He was shoved into a cluttered storage room to live, sometimes not even given enough to eat!

None of the parents or five sisters ever truly showed concern for him. No one ever asked about the hell he had endured for over ten years.

And even worse, they would scold and beat him for the sake of that imposter!

The reason? They didn’t want the fake son to feel upset.

Neglecting and abusing their true son, just to protect the feelings of someone who had lived a life of luxury for over a decade…

Ha… How ridiculous.

“Teach me? Teach me what?”

Qin Yi stared blankly at this so-called father, but his eyes no longer held fear—only calm.

“Teach me how to wag my tail and beg like a dog just to win your favor? Or how to silently take the blame for things that have nothing to do with me, and let you humiliate and beat me?”

His calm tone gradually grew laced with mockery.

Qin Guojing froze, clearly stunned. He had never heard Qin Yi speak like that before.

From the doorway, Mother Qin—Ding Pingli—hurried over in a panic, “Xiao Yi, how can you talk to your father like that? You were the one who did wrong! Just listen to Mom, stop being so stubborn. Just apologize and everything will be fine.”

“Drop the act. Stop pretending to be a good mother. You call yourself my mother, but have you ever done anything a real mother would do?”

“It’s been three years. When have you ever truly cared about me?”

Qin Yi’s cold gaze shifted to Ding Pingli. He felt nothing for this so-called mother—only disgust.

In his previous life, he had finally gotten into a university in another province and barely escaped this hell.

But before he even turned twenty, this woman used sweet talk to trick him into donating his organs to that fake son.

Even in the half-year before his death, she never showed the slightest concern for him.

It was as if he had been born solely to serve that one purpose. Beyond that, he was nothing. He didn’t even deserve to exist.

Just then, Qin Guojing swung a slap at him.

Qin Yi instinctively tried to dodge, raising his arm to block.

Smack! The slap still landed, but fortunately, his arm shielded him. A red handprint immediately appeared on his forearm.

His thin, frail body—already weakened by hunger—was nearly knocked over by the force.

“What did you just say? I dare you to repeat it!”

Qin Guojing’s bloodshot eyes glared, his face twisted with rage as if he wanted to tear Qin Yi apart.

Ding Pingli had tears in her eyes. Qin Yi’s earlier words had pierced through her like a dagger, making her feel like her identity as a mother had been shattered.

She couldn’t understand it.

Why was her own biological son so cold to her? Why was he so much worse than the adopted son, who was so obedient and sensible?

“Qin Yi, your attitude is disgusting.”

From the doorway, second sister Qin Huizhu finally spoke with a cold face.

“First, you almost got Xiaofeng killed. Now you dare to say such cruel things to Mom.”

“We brought you back into this home out of kindness, gave you food and clothes you could never have had before—and this is how you repay us?”

“Even a dog would learn not to bite after three years of being raised!”

“But you?”

Even the dizziness from hunger couldn’t drown out Qin Huizhu’s venomous words.

Qin Yi seemed to forget about the pain as he slowly smiled.

“Ha… Repay you? You think you deserve it?”
