Chapter 29: Cousin, Let’s Make a Bet

“I’ve got time, but… who are you?”

Although He Li already knew who it was, he wasn’t foolish enough to say it directly. He pretended to be puzzled.

Yu Jianxin smiled calmly, “Yu Xin! Miao Xiaoyu is my cousin. I heard you two have been getting pretty close recently—do you mind having a chat?”

Yu Xin? So she was using a fake name? Fine.

He Li didn’t waste time and directly admitted it, “Yeah, we’re pretty close. I like her! Cousin, is there a problem with that?”

His straightforwardness caught Yu Jianxin completely off guard.

She was stunned for a moment. In her mind, young men like He Li who hadn’t faced the harsh realities of society yet should still be inexperienced and reserved when it came to handling such situations.

As someone from the girl’s side of the family showing up like this, he should’ve been nervous or at least cautious.

But this guy? He admitted his feelings on the spot? And even questioned her like that?

What was she supposed to say now—yes or no?

If she said yes, it would mean she approved. If she said no, it would seem like she was picking a fight.

She had only come to test the waters, not to act like one of those annoying antagonist characters in a drama.

This brat—young, but surprisingly sharp—knew exactly how to catch people off guard.

Still, Yu Jianxin didn’t dislike it.

She’d seen too much deception and manipulation in the entertainment industry.

He Li’s direct honesty was actually refreshing to her.

And his calmness? That was even more impressive.

“Ahem, of course there’s no problem!” she said with a smile, then changed the subject. “But… I still need to see whether you’re truly worthy of Xiaoyu’s affection.

“Our Xiaoyu is pure and kind. As her cousin, I have to protect her and make sure no one takes advantage of her!”

She said it with a sweet smile. He Li remained silent.

Yu Jianxin asked again, “Tell me, why do you like Xiaoyu?”

She was genuinely curious. What was it about Miao Xiaoyu that made He Li fall for her?

“Why?” He Li looked up at the sky.

The moon hung high in the night sky.

He smiled. “When I started high school, I met Xiaoyu. I thought she was pretty, but I didn’t like her back then. In fact, I spent those three years chasing someone else.”

“During those three years, Xiaoyu stayed by my side as a friend. She waited quietly and kindly, hoping I would eventually turn around.”

“She cared about me and was always considerate of my feelings.”

“She never argued with me…”

“She was always trying different ways to make me happy.”

“I felt relaxed around her, and she was always eager to share all kinds of interesting things with me.”

…

As He Li spoke, Yu Jianxin’s gaze shifted.

She had thought that He Li and Miao Xiaoyu’s feelings were just youthful attraction—a mutual liking that gradually developed as they got closer.

But the truth was far deeper than that.

Miao Xiaoyu had done so much for He Li—so much that even Yu Jianxin, her cousin, felt a twinge of jealousy.

And He Li? He didn’t let her down.

He had always known about her devotion. He had awakened to it, responded to it, and acknowledged his true feelings.

This was love built on mutual effort—love where both gave and chased after each other.

“Xiaoyu is gentle, beautiful, and adorable!”

“I’ve gotten used to her presence and I don’t want to lose her.”

“That’s why I will definitely keep her by my side.”

By the end of his words, He Li’s gaze had turned unwavering.

Yu Jianxin didn’t doubt for a second—no one in the world could stop him from being with Miao Xiaoyu.

That fierce determination… was really attractive.

She was jealous. She wanted this kind of love too.

Looking into He Li’s resolute eyes, Yu Jianxin’s own eyes sparkled.

She couldn’t help but ask, “But… just hypothetically—what if Xiaoyu’s family background turns out to be very impressive? If her family thinks you’re not good enough and wants to break you two up…”

“What would you do then?” she asked seriously.

He Li turned to her. “There is no ‘what if’.”

“No matter how powerful her background is, once I’ve chosen her, I’ll have the ability to make everyone shut up!” He Li’s voice was calm, but filled with confidence. His eyes were deep but not arrogant.

Yu Jianxin paused. For a moment, she vaguely felt like… He Li knew something.

Could he have figured out who she and Miao Xiaoyu really were?

Impossible. She had disguised herself well—how could he know?

As for Miao Xiaoyu? How many people in Yecheng even recognized her?

“I’m probably overthinking it,” Yu Jianxin shook her head.

Still, she couldn’t figure out where He Li’s confidence came from.

“You sure sound confident, but you’ve only just started your business—you haven’t succeeded at anything yet.”

“What gives you the right to say something like that?”

She continued pressing him. He Li chuckled.

“Cousin, how about we make a bet?”

“Hmm? A bet? What kind of bet?”

“Simple. Let’s bet on my business!”

“My game will launch in late August. Let’s bet on how much money I can make from it.”

“If I win, then you fully support me.”

Hearing this, Yu Jianxin frowned.

“And if you lose? What happens then?”

“Nothing!” He Li shrugged. “If I lose, it just means I’m not capable enough. You don’t have to support me. If Xiaoyu’s family really gives me a hard time, I’ll find my own way to handle it.”

Well damn, Yu Jianxin had to admit, this guy was slick.

If he won, he’d gain massive benefits. If he lost, he wouldn’t lose anything.

Where did he get the guts to be so shamelessly confident?

But then again… what could she really do if he lost?

She couldn’t force him and Miao Xiaoyu to break up, right?

If she did that, Miao Xiaoyu would hate her for sure.

“You little brat, you’re a crafty one!” Yu Jianxin rolled her eyes at him with a grin.

He Li shrugged again. “So, cousin, do you agree?”

“What choice do I have? Still, I really don’t think your little game is going to make much money!”

Yu Jianxin looked unconvinced. “Is it a standalone game or a mobile game? Even if you sell it, how much can you possibly make?”

“Five million!” He Li replied without hesitation.

Yu Jianxin frowned. Five million—not too much, not too little.

But then He Li added, “In two months!”

“Huh?” Yu Jianxin was slightly surprised. “You’re saying this little game of yours is going to make five million in just two months?”

He Li nodded. “Exactly.”

“And that’s just the beginning.”

“After those two months, the income will skyrocket.”

“So let’s bet on whether I can make five million in two months.”

“And by the way, the income isn’t from selling the game outright.”

Looking at He Li’s determined expression, Yu Jianxin started to doubt herself.

This guy didn’t seem like someone who talked big for no reason. Did he really have the confidence to pull this off?

Even though five million wasn’t a lot for her, for a young man just starting out…

That was an enormous amount.

Where on earth did he get this kind of confidence?

Yu Jianxin didn’t understand, but her curiosity was now fully ignited.

“Fine. Since you’re so confident, I’ll wait and see!”

“If you can actually do it, then I’ll admit your potential is huge—and that, at the very least, you’re capable enough to match our Xiaoyu. I’ll support you!” she said as she checked the time and stood up.

“But if you fail, then you’re on your own!”

With that, Yu Jianxin walked off with her long legs swaying confidently.

He Li watched her back, grinning brightly.

Five million really was a lot. But in his head, he carried countless ideas from the future—about how games in the domestic market would rake in insane profits.

Earning five million in two months after launching the game wasn’t hard at all.

“Yu Jianxin has influence and status. Once I win this bet and get her support, my business will grow rapidly.”

“And Xiaoyu’s family will be more willing to accept me.”

“Xiaoyu, just wait. I’ll bring you home as my bride!”

Muttering to himself, He Li walked away in a joyful mood…
