After Rebirth and Done Chasing, I Choose the Gentle and Rich Goddess Over the Scheming Campus Belle - Chapter 30:
Chapter 30: Rainy Day, Guess What, Test Version
That night, He Li slept exceptionally well. The nearly guaranteed bet with Yu Jianxin made him feel even closer to registering his marriage with Miao Xiaoyu. In his dreams, he seemed to envision a beautiful future, smiling in his sleep.
In the early morning, He Li was woken up by the sound of rain outside the window. The rain was heavy, and the air had turned cooler. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and yawned, but the noise from the living room instantly made him alert…
“You silly girl, going out without an umbrella!”
“Hehe, I left in a hurry and forgot. Aunt, are you preparing breakfast? Let me help you!”
“No, no… Hey, you silly girl!”
“It’s fine, Aunt. If it weren’t for you, I would’ve gotten soaked.”
“Alright, alright. What a sensible girl. I wonder which lucky boy will marry you in the future!”
…Huh? Xiaoyu? Why is she here?
He Li perked up and quickly got dressed. After washing up, he came to the living room and saw two familiar figures through the kitchen glass door. Scratching his head, he hurried into the kitchen, which was filled with a rich aroma.
“Mom, why did you bring Xiaoyu here?” he couldn’t help but ask. His mom shot him a glance.
“What? Is it not allowed? Xiaoyu is such a sweet and beautiful girl. You should be happy just to see her!”
He Li was speechless, “I was just asking.”
Miao Xiaoyu, hearing the conversation, quickly added, “I ran into Aunt on the way. I forgot my umbrella because of the rain, so I came along with her!”
He Li nodded and didn’t think too much about it.
“Have you had breakfast? Come eat with us.”
“Yes, come eat with us!” his mom echoed immediately. She was more than eager for He Li and Miao Xiaoyu to spend time together.
Miao Xiaoyu was secretly happy and shyly nodded.
At the dining table, He Li’s dad had already eaten and gone to work. His mom watched TV while sneaking glances at the young pair, smiling to herself.
He Li sat next to Miao Xiaoyu and, seeing her take small bites of the steaming noodles, added a few pieces of meat to her bowl, “Eat more. I feel like you’ve gotten thinner lately.”
“I haven’t!” Miao Xiaoyu pouted in response.
He Li grinned, “Of course you have. Yesterday when I held you, you felt much lighter.”
At those words, Miao Xiaoyu instantly recalled the moment yesterday when she had slipped and been caught in He Li’s arms. The panic, thrill, and shyness from that moment still lingered vividly in her memory. Her cheeks turned bright red like an apple.
“Th-that was just your imagination…” she mumbled, lowering her head and almost burying her face into her bowl from embarrassment. He Li watched her with a smile and said nothing more, quietly enjoying his noodles while admiring her beauty.
On the sofa, his mom smiled brightly. She had clearly seen the affection between the two young ones. At this rate, there was no doubt Xiaoyu would become her daughter-in-law.
But watching the sweetness between the young couple, she couldn’t help but feel a bit envious. In her younger days, men and women weren’t as open. Even speaking before marriage made people blush, let alone picking food for each other.
When two people liked each other back then, they probably didn’t even dare to speak and would just lower their heads and awkwardly brush past one another.
It was nothing like now…
“Times have changed. Being young… how wonderful,” she sighed in her heart.
Then, glancing at He Li again, she became a little curious…
“This brat really knows how to charm a girl. Where did he learn all this?” she wondered.
But He Li had no idea what was going on in his mom’s head.
After breakfast, the rain outside had lessened but hadn’t stopped. His mom handed them two umbrellas, asking them to take one each as they went out.
Downstairs, He Li opened his umbrella and stepped into the rain. Miao Xiaoyu stood still, staring directly at him. He turned around and smiled, “The umbrella my mom gave you might be a bit faulty and hard to open sometimes. Come on, I’ll hold the umbrella. Let’s walk together!” His tone seemed to hint at something.
Miao Xiaoyu didn’t know if there was a deeper meaning in his words. But she knew one thing—the umbrella in her hand was brand new!
She didn’t expose it, nor did she try opening it. Instead, she let out a soft laugh and jogged to his side.
The rain wasn’t heavy, but it was a bit chilly. Miao Xiaoyu leaned against He Li’s shoulder, seeking warmth. She felt cozy and happy.
He Li sniffed the familiar fragrance in the air.
“Yesterday… did my cousin talk to you?” Miao Xiaoyu suddenly asked in a soft voice as they strolled through the rain.
He Li nodded, “Yeah, I ran into her after I walked you back. We chatted for a bit.”
“What did you two talk about?” Miao Xiaoyu suddenly became nervous.
Last night, Yu Jianxin had called her, but she hadn’t said what she and He Li had talked about. That left Miao Xiaoyu feeling slightly uneasy. She was afraid her cousin might’ve said something inappropriate.
He Li glanced at her anxious expression and chuckled, “Why are you so tense? Relax. Your cousin didn’t say anything bad. We just had a normal chat.”
“That’s a relief!” Miao Xiaoyu exhaled.
But then He Li added, “She asked why we’re so close. Then she asked if I liked you.”
“And she even mentioned how rich your family is. If I really have feelings for you, I’d better work hard.”
He said it with a grin, and Miao Xiaoyu was stunned.
Her face instantly turned into a mix of shyness, anxiety, unease, and nervousness. She felt like scolding her cousin for being so reckless in saying all that to He Li.
She didn’t even dare look at him now.
But she was also very curious—how did He Li respond?
Did he admit he had feelings for her?
Or… did he say he didn’t?
Clutching the corner of her shirt, Miao Xiaoyu’s heart pounded. But when she looked up and saw the gentle expression on He Li’s face, and thought of her cousin’s mischievous laugh on the phone last night, a realization slowly dawned on her…
“Did He Li… actually admit it yesterday?”
As a top student who scored over 700 on her exams, Miao Xiaoyu was sharp. She had already figured it out.
If He Li had outright denied having any feelings, he would’ve kept his distance today instead of still staying with her, picking food for her, holding the umbrella…
Thinking of all this, Miao Xiaoyu’s gloom vanished, and a warm, sunny smile returned to her face.
He Li turned to look at her beautiful smile and smiled back knowingly.
“Actually, I made a bet with your cousin last night!” he suddenly said, surprising Miao Xiaoyu.
“A bet?” she asked. He Li nodded, “She said if I won, she’d support me.”
“Support you? Support you in what?” Miao Xiaoyu asked curiously.
He Li gently patted her head and leaned close to her ear, “Take a guess.”
Feeling his warm breath against her ear, Miao Xiaoyu’s ears turned bright red as she mumbled, “How could I guess…”
He Li just smiled and didn’t say another word.
Miao Xiaoyu, curious as ever, could only try guessing for herself.
“What would cousin support him with? His career?”
“It couldn’t be… support him being with me, right?”
The shy thought made her heart race wildly.
Just then, Wu Gang’s voice came from not far away. Miao Xiaoyu quickly rubbed her flushed cheeks to calm herself.
The three of them chatted and laughed as they arrived at the studio.
Today’s task wasn’t too heavy!
The main focus was playtesting the game’s test version.
That would take quite some time since it needed to be played through directly.
Don’t think playing games is all fun—repeating the same monotonous stages over and over becomes more of a torture than enjoyment. But thankfully, He Li had memories from his previous life and could avoid most issues in advance. Wu Gang and the others just needed to catch the small, easily overlooked problems…
