After Transmigration, I Traded a Coin for a Peerless Wife and Conquered the Chaotic World - Chapter 40:
Chapter 40: The Wolf Is Gone, Now Comes the Tiger!
If it were just a matter of encountering someone arrogant and overbearing, perhaps He Caiwei might have swallowed her anger. But the Battle of Yan Pass—its brutality was known to all! Three thousand defenders fought fearlessly to the death, nearly all perished. Moreover, her husband Lin Feng was one of those three thousand soldiers. How could He Caiwei possibly allow her husband to be humiliated like this?
“You’re tired of living, woman!” Qin Hu shouted. “A mere commoner dares speak to me like that? Looks like you need to be taught a lesson! Fine then, I’ll take you back to camp and discipline you properly!”
Qin Hu grinned lecherously. Being in the army, he hadn’t seen a woman in months. Today, as they entered the city, he’d originally planned to seek out a brothel, but who would’ve thought a beauty like this would block his way? With such delicate features and an alluring gaze, the temptation was too great. Meat this close to his mouth—how could he not bite?
As he spoke, several of his soldiers flanked He Caiwei, cutting off her path of escape.
Second Aunt quickly stepped forward to stop them. “Please calm down, sirs! Lin family’s daughter-in-law’s husband is also a soldier. We’re all one family, surely this is just a misunderstanding…”
Before she could finish, one of the soldiers roughly shoved her to the ground. “Get lost! Say another word and my blade won’t show mercy!”
In truth, they didn’t care whether He Caiwei was military family or not. The Zhenbei Army wouldn’t have their families stationed here. And based on her coarse clothing, she clearly wasn’t the wife of any officer. At most, her husband might have been a low-ranking foot soldier. So what if they offended him?
Second Aunt was smart enough to know she couldn’t stop these beasts. She scrambled to her feet and ran toward the village.
The surrounding townsfolk whispered and pointed, clearly displeased.
“Is this really the Zhenbei Army? Weren’t they supposed to be here to save us? They’re worse than the Northern Barbarians!”
“Outrageous! They knocked someone down and now they’re bullying a young girl in broad daylight. How are they any different from bandits?”
“We got rid of the wolves, now we have to deal with tigers. How can us folks at Yan Pass survive like this…”
They were speaking loudly enough to be heard, hoping to scare the soldiers into backing off. But to their surprise, Qin Hu sneered and turned to the crowd, “You’re all mistaken. Although we’ve driven away the Blood Wolf Army, many of their spies hid in the chaos. Look at this woman’s heterochromia. She doesn’t even look like a citizen of the Great Zhou. We’re taking her back for interrogation!”
With a “shing,” Qin Hu drew his blade, his voice turning cold, “Anyone who dares to interfere will be treated as a Northern Barbarian sympathizer. Don’t blame me if my blade doesn’t show mercy!”
That silenced the crowd instantly. They were just ordinary citizens. Who would dare confront soldiers?
Qin Hu grinned viciously. “Come, little lady. Return to the camp with me for inspection. Don’t worry, I’ll be gentle.”
He Caiwei, of course, knew exactly what this so-called inspection meant. If she went with them, being defiled would be the least of her worries. They might very well silence her afterward.
Without hesitation, He Caiwei exposed him. “Go with you? What crime have I committed to be taken away? Just because I have heterochromia? As soldiers of the nation, instead of fighting to protect the people, you’re kidnapping women in broad daylight. You’re worse than animals!”
That struck a nerve. Qin Hu roared, “Insolence! You dare insult me? I’ll make sure you regret it!”
He sheathed his blade and raised his hand to slap her.
At that instant, He Caiwei’s expression turned cold. Just before the slap landed, she formed a sword gesture with her fingers and thrust toward Qin Hu’s throat. Her sudden movement allowed her to dodge and counter.
Qin Hu’s eyes widened in disbelief. A sharp pain pierced his throat.
Cough! Cough!
He nearly choked, gasping and coughing before he could catch his breath.
A regular person’s strike would mean nothing to a 3rd rank martial artist like Qin Hu. But to be struck and evaded so cleanly? That proved this woman was no ordinary person.
Indeed, He Caiwei hadn’t slacked off recently. With her exceptional comprehension, her strength had already approached that of a 2nd rank martial artist. And with her surprise attack, even a Centurion like Qin Hu couldn’t avoid it.
“Hmph! Still dare say you’re not an enemy spy? What kind of common girl can fight like this?”
Feeling humiliated, Qin Hu threw the spy label on her.
“The Great Zhou is founded on martial might! Who says women can’t practice martial arts?”
She sneered, “You think I’m skilled? That’s only because you’re weak.”
“Bitch!” Qin Hu exploded.
“Seize her! Take down this Northern Barbarian spy!”
His soldiers drew their weapons and charged toward He Caiwei.
She hadn’t brought a weapon—she was only out buying food for her husband. Nor did she have much real combat experience. Within a few exchanges, she was already struggling.
Then, a kick landed on her back, knocking her to the ground.
“Restrain her!”
With Qin Hu’s shout, the soldiers rushed forward and pinned He Caiwei down.
Two men grabbed her arms, completely restraining her.
“Now you know who you’re dealing with,” Qin Hu sneered.
But He Caiwei wasn’t scared. She spat in his face.
Then, she suddenly raised her leg and kicked him hard in the groin.
Qin Hu howled in pain, clutching himself and staggering for a long moment.
“You’ve got spirit!” he growled. “I like feisty women like you!”
“You want to be wild? Fine, I’ll handle you right here on the street. Let’s see how long you keep that spirit!”
A soldier kicked He Caiwei’s knees, forcing her to kneel before Qin Hu.
He leered as he stepped forward and reached out—rip!—tearing the sleeve from her arm.
Snow-white skin was exposed. Her delicate collarbone and fair skin drew animalistic gazes from the men.
“Damn, she’s pale! Coming to Yan Pass was worth the risk—this is a reward!”
Even now, He Caiwei showed no fear. She gritted her teeth and glared at him.
“If you dare touch me, my husband will never let you go!”
