Chapter 4: Ji Hanyue Is Quite a Nice-Sounding Name

That was a brutally cold winter—so cruel it had frozen countless people to death.

Back then, there was no such thing as the Frozen Moon Empress Ji Hanyue in this world. There was only the Frozen Moon Empire’s Eldest Princess, a woman named Ji Hanyue.

The Frozen Moon Empire was one of the greatest dynasties in the entire Southern Region of the Heavenly Cloud Realm.

As the empire’s Eldest Princess, Ji Hanyue’s status was incomparably noble. It could be said she had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth.

Not only that, she was also deeply favored by the reigning emperor. From childhood, she received endless care and affection. In fact, in just one day she heard more flattery than some people heard in their entire lives.

With such an upbringing, Ji Hanyue naturally believed this wonderful life would continue forever.

Until that winter arrived—the winter that froze countless people to death.

Her imperial father died unexpectedly from illness. Several imperial younger brothers—ones she had never been close to and who had never stood out—suddenly joined forces. A series of actions to seize power and usurp the throne was completed in one swift motion overnight.

By the time Ji Hanyue, lacking any political instinct, finally reacted, the new emperor’s butcher’s blade had already reached toward her.

The imperial family was always the most ruthless. It had been that way since ancient times.

Fortunately, a few old servants who were still loyal noticed what was coming in advance. They risked their lives to fight through the heavy encirclement of elite troops the emperor had sent and brought Ji Hanyue out.

But they feared being implicated later, so in the end, they chose to leave Ji Hanyue without a word.

When blood ran dry, the raging snowstorm became the burial shroud for those old loyalists of the former empire.

From that day on, there was no longer an Eldest Princess of the Frozen Moon Empire in this world. There was only Ji Hanyue—the future Empress who had fallen from royalty back into common dust.

Huangsha Village.

Poke~

Twelve-year-old Xu Fan, wrapped in a thick layer of old, tattered cotton clothing, sniffed hard to stop his runny nose. Using a small wooden stick, he poked at the unknown woman lying unconscious at his doorstep.

Seeing that she didn’t move at all, young Xu Fan asked in his heart, “System, are you sure this is Ji Hanyue, the target I’m supposed to pursue in this life? I feel like she’s already not breathing!”

“Don’t tell me in this life you’re making me go after a female ghost like You Tang again?”

The system spoke calmly, full of confidence. [Host, rest assured. This system’s judgment is absolutely never wrong.]

[For example, this target belonging uniquely to you in this life—although she looks like she’s about to stop breathing right now…]

Xu Fan’s big eyes instantly lit up. “So actually what? Could it be she’s cultivating some special technique?”

The system answered with solemn seriousness, [Actually, she really is about to stop breathing!]

Xu Fan: …

He had no time to think further. Knowing the situation was urgent, he immediately started wailing at the top of his lungs, “Dad! Mom! Save her—someone’s dying!”

A few hours later.

When Ji Hanyue finally woke from her heavy stupor again, the first thing she felt was a swelling pain in her head that was hard to describe. Her whole body felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar. Even wrapped under a thick, old cotton quilt, she still couldn’t block the bone-piercing chill that seeped out from deep within her marrow.

She shivered instinctively, yet she still didn’t forget who she was. Her beautiful big eyes opened wide, scanning the surroundings with extreme vigilance.

“My name is Ji Hanyue… I used to be the Eldest Princess of the Frozen Moon Empire… Uncle Chen led me out after cutting through the new emperor Ji Aotian’s encirclement… If I remember correctly, I seemed to arrive at a place called Huangsha Village in the end…”

Ji Hanyue’s voice carried deep weakness. It was broken and unsteady, yet there was an inexplicable toughness hidden within it. “It seems this is a farmer’s room… So was I saved by a farming household?”

After realizing this, Ji Hanyue immediately struggled to get up, trying to leave.

It wasn’t that she was ungrateful. She was just afraid her beast-in-human-skin imperial younger brother Ji Aotian would soon discover this place and drag this innocent family down with her.

But just as she tried to move, she felt waves of soreness rise through every joint in her body. A violent dizziness slammed into her head, making her collapse back down at once, powerless. “But… I seem to be seriously ill right now…”

At this moment, Ji Hanyue felt as though she couldn’t summon even a trace of strength. Even her consciousness began to blur.

And then—suddenly—the door was pushed open from outside!

Ji Hanyue’s body hair stood on end, and her mind snapped awake instantly!

Who was it?! The farmer who saved her?

She didn’t have the strength to turn her head. She could only listen nervously to the sounds coming from the doorway. Yet the moment she listened, her heart sank straight to the bottom.

How could it be footsteps so light they were almost nonexistent?

If it were a normal farmer, how could they possibly move so stealthily?

Could it be… that Ji Aotian’s pursuers had found her in bed and were now trying to kill her silently?!

Ji Hanyue was completely despairing. She wanted to curse. She wanted to fight back. But her body had no strength at all, and her face turned pale instantly.

At this moment, Ji Hanyue felt her own helplessness with painful clarity. She couldn’t help but close her eyes in despair.

In just one night, she had fallen from a lofty Eldest Princess to an ordinary person whose life could be taken at any moment.

Perhaps this was her fate.

Ji Hanyue couldn’t speak, but several bean-sized tears quietly seeped from the corners of her eyes, sliding soundlessly down her flawless profile.

Yet before the tears could fully roll down her cheek, a small hand gently wiped them away.

Ji Hanyue froze, then subconsciously opened her eyes.

A boy’s face—somewhat childish, yet clean and pure—abruptly entered her view.

Not someone sent by Ji Aotian to kill her?

Ji Hanyue’s heart trembled lightly, her expression blank with confusion.

She blinked, wanting to ask him something.

But Xu Fan’s voice beat her to it, echoing in the empty room, “How are you this grown up and still drool in your sleep~”

Ji Hanyue: ???

The former Eldest Princess, long used to flattery, had never in her life heard such a humiliating insult that ruined her image. She immediately became annoyed and furious.

Even though her body felt terrible, Ji Hanyue still couldn’t help wanting to argue with Xu Fan.

But before she could open her mouth, a wave of unbearable dizziness surged through her brain. Unable to withstand it, her vision turned black, and she fainted again.

Xu Fan didn’t notice Ji Hanyue’s expression just now.

He only tucked in the quilt around the sleeping Ji Hanyue, then touched her smooth forehead—so hot it was frightening—and sighed softly.

He wrung out the damp towel he had brought in, then gently placed it on Ji Hanyue’s forehead, murmuring, “Conditions here are limited… you’ll have to make do…”

He didn’t say anything else. He simply sat by the kang, watching Ji Hanyue, who looked as peaceful as a sleeping beauty, resting his chin in his hand as he quietly waited for her to wake again.

“Ji Hanyue… that really is quite a nice-sounding name.”
