Fairy, Please Stop Coming Out of the Novel - Chapter 1:
Chapter 1: What Should I Do If the Female Lead Runs Out?
“Hello, is this 110?”
“Someone is chasing me… no, a ghost is chasing me. Help!”
In the pitch-black alley, Jiang Fan pressed himself against a moss-covered wall. Cold sweat soaked through the clothes on his back. From the phone that had fallen beside him came the voice of a police officer asking, “A ghost? What ghost? Filing a false police report carries legal responsibility…”
Fear streamed from Jiang Fan’s eyes. His mouth hung open, yet no sound came out.
As the white figure floating in midair drew closer and closer, his breathing grew rapid, and his heart sank to the bottom.
With the approach of the white shadow, the surrounding air temperature dropped sharply.
A bolt of lightning suddenly split across the sky, briefly illuminating the night and allowing Jiang Fan to see clearly what the white shadow was.
No, not a thing.
A person.
A woman.
A classical white dress draped naturally over her body, outlining her graceful curves with striking clarity.
Without any deliberate effort, her figure was full and radiant like the moon. The hem of the skirt fell past her knees, faintly revealing a section of calf smooth as jade, straight and slender. A fraction more would be too plump; a fraction less too thin.
She stood barefoot in the air, her feet delicate and proportionate, as exquisitely shaped as finely carved white jade.
Looking upward, her refined collarbones appeared and disappeared beneath the fabric. Above them rose a proud swan-like neck, and finally, a face of pure, peerless beauty entered his sight.
Jiang Fan’s heartbeat skipped.
This face…
It felt so familiar.
The woman in white’s icy eyes flickered. Then something strange happened. A long sword, emanating a deep chill from its entire body, appeared out of thin air in her hand. Its crystalline blade shimmered with cold sharpness, radiating waves of frigid air. The space around it seemed to freeze.
The moment Jiang Fan saw the sword, he felt as if struck by lightning. Numbness spread from the top of his head down to his toes. “Ice Glass Sword?”
Her voice was as cold and clear as her presence. “It seems I have found the right person.”
Suddenly, she pointed the sword straight at Jiang Fan’s throat. Her clear eyes swept over him several times from head to toe. “Name?”
“J-Jiang Fan.”
“Jiang Jiang Fan?”
“N-No… my name is Jiang Fan…”
Being held at swordpoint against his throat was a first for Jiang Fan. The terrifying chill from the sword tip pierced his skin with pain. The extreme tension made his entire body tremble.
“Um… beautiful lady, this is a society ruled by law. What you’re doing right now is very dangerous.”
“There’s a saying, right? Yes. Impulse is the devil. Impulse is a pair of handcuffs and shackles. It is a dose of regret that can never be finished. We have no grudges from the past and no enmity in the present. If there’s something to discuss, let’s talk it out. Could you move the sword away first?”
The woman in white let out a soft laugh, yet it was chilling. “No grudges from the past and no enmity in the present?”
A wave of icy killing intent rushed toward him. Jiang Fan shuddered uncontrollably, every hair on his body standing on end.
“Cough… Beautiful lady, there must be some misunderstanding between us.”
Her brows knitted slightly, and she spoke four icy words. “How do you want to die?”
Cold sweat slid down Jiang Fan’s face. Remembering how she had floated in midair moments earlier, he suppressed the fear in his heart and asked in a trembling voice, “Y-You… who exactly are you?”
“Luo Xian.”
Her voice remained clear and cold.
Jiang Fan’s mind buzzed. He stared blankly at the Ice Glass Sword in Luo Xian’s hand.
Suddenly, he began shaking his head while muttering, “Impossible. Absolutely impossible. How could a character from a novel appear in reality? That’s ridiculous.”
That was right.
Jiang Fan was an online novelist. Well… to be precise, an online writer.
More than a month ago, right after finishing the college entrance exams, he had taken advantage of the summer vacation to start a new novel. It was a fantasy romance.
Originally, Jiang Fan had always written urban romance novels. The performance of his previous novels had been very average, just enough to scrape by and earn the website’s attendance bonus.
For this new novel, he had prepared carefully for a long time. He took a different path, changing from the male oriented protagonist to female oriented. Not only that, he shifted the background from urban to fantasy. The core was still romance. A so-called minor innovation. In other words, selling dog meat under a sheep’s head.
The female lead of the new novel was named Luo Xian.
The woman before him had the same name as his female lead. Even her appearance was almost identical to his description in the novel. And that sword, identical to the Ice Glass Sword.
All these coincidences made Jiang Fan unable to stop the speculation that the female lead from his novel had come into reality.
But once he calmed down, the guess seemed too absurd.
As a well-rounded young man living in the twenty-first century, he did not believe in ghosts or gods. He certainly would not accept a possibility even more outrageous than ghost stories.
“Are you really called Luo Xian?”
Luo Xian’s gaze was indifferent. She did not respond.
Jiang Fan curled his lips into a grin. “If I’m not mistaken, you must be a fan of my novel, right? You almost scared me there. Alright, stop acting. Tell me, how did you just float up like that? Wires?”
Her eyes grew even colder. She swung the sword.
In the next instant, a sword mark appeared on the bluestone slab about one meter in front of Jiang Fan. The cut was neat and bottomless. Though it was the sweltering heat of midsummer, a thick layer of frost formed along the edge of the mark.
Jiang Fan stared at the sword mark on the ground for a long time. When he came back to his senses, instinct took over. His first action was to protect his crotch.
After all, he had just turned eighteen. And he was still a virgin.
Luo Xian snorted. “Vulgar.”
Such an insult to his character instantly ignited Jiang Fan’s temper. He lost his rationality at once. “Who are you calling vulgar? You can eat recklessly, but you can’t speak recklessly. I am a well-rounded young man of the new era, a flower of the motherland, a decent person.”
The more he spoke, the more heated he became. “Let me tell you, you can kill me, but you cannot insult my character. As the ancients said, poverty cannot sway me, power cannot bend me. That is what it means to be a true man.”
Her airy voice sounded again. “Since you want to die so much, I will grant your wish. Tell me, how would you like to die?”
Meeting Luo Xian’s utterly indifferent gaze, Jiang Fan instantly lost his courage. His voice stammered uncontrollably. “J-Just joking. I was joking with you. I like being insulted. Really…”
“Weren’t you just saying that power cannot bend you?”
“The ancients also said… a true man knows when to yield and when to stand tall.”
Luo Xian stood barefoot in the air, her skirt swaying gently in the wind. She said nothing. She simply looked down at Jiang Fan, staring at him without blinking.
At first, Jiang Fan only felt awkward and helpless. As time passed, a suffocating sensation slowly crept over him.
Finally, he could not hold it anymore. Trembling, he spoke, “Are you really Luo Xian? The Luo Xian whose birth triggered heavenly phenomena? The Luo Xian born with an immortal bone? The Luo Xian whose Ice Glass Sword was her natal companion?”
Luo Xian glanced at him faintly, still offering no answer.
With a thought, the long sword in her hand transformed into a streak of icy blue light and shot straight into the center of her brow.
The scene of the supernatural froze Jiang Fan’s expression. All doubt vanished from his heart.
His female lead…
Had truly run into reality.
