Get Lost Female Protagonist! I Choose the Villainess! - Chapter 69:
Chapter 69: “When Are You Going to Marry Me?”
These words made Xia Yumeng’s heart ache even more. Tears from her already red eyes fell uncontrollably.
“Why? Why are you saying this, Sister Fairy? Why?” She stared at Luo Lin with tear-filled eyes. “Why did your attitude change so suddenly?”
‘Weren’t you supportive of me? Didn’t you believe in me? Why should I lose? Why is everything so different today? Yesterday, you were encouraging me and cheering me on. Why did everything change so drastically?’
“Girls should know how to behave appropriately, especially when it comes to friendships with the opposite gender. Keep your distance and figure things out for yourself,” Luo Lin said coldly before turning to leave.
“Wait! Sister Fairy, please, wait! General Luo!” Xia Yu called out, raising her hand, but Luo Lin had already left, and the pressure of the training tower’s formation reappeared.
Stunned, Xia Yu stood there, overwhelmed.
What had happened to Luo Lin?
Why had her attitude changed so completely from yesterday?
Was it because Luo Lin saw today’s outcome? Did she see the gap between herself and Jiang Ruoxi and decide that Xia Yu was far inferior to her? Was that why her opinion had shifted?
Yes, that had to be it! It was because her strength wasn’t enough to match Jiang Ruoxi’s. Everything came down to that—Jiang Ruoxi’s strength.
Xia Yu clenched her fists tightly. Why was Jiang Ruoxi considered better, more worthy? Why was she being compared like this, leading to such a conclusion?
“Jiang Ruoxi, you might be ahead for now, but that’s only temporary!” she muttered, her eyes burning with determination. “I’ll never be beneath you. Never! I’ll surpass you one day and prove myself to everyone!”
She gritted her teeth. “And Ling Kong, I’ll make you come back to me. You’ll regret leaving me!”
Fueled by her anger, Xia Yu sat down again.
Under the intense pressure of the formation, she resumed her training with renewed focus. From this day forward, she resolved to work even harder. One day, she would make everyone acknowledge her.
She might not be as strong as Jiang Ruoxi now, but that was temporary. She couldn’t give up on herself. One day, she would take back everything that was rightfully hers, even if she had to seize it by force.
As for Luo Lin’s words about keeping a distance from male friends, she didn’t seem to take them seriously. Maybe she thought her relationships with them were just fine. Or perhaps she didn’t see those male friends as ordinary friends at all.
…
At Ling Kong’s Residence
Jiang Ruoxi was busy cooking, preparing a delicious dinner. Even though cultivators, as their realms improved, needed to eat less and less, food was still something to enjoy—especially Jiang Ruoxi’s cooking. With their current cultivation levels, they still needed to eat, and after the competition, everyone was celebrating.
They could celebrate too—celebrate the fact that their rankings hadn’t changed. After all, life needed a little sense of occasion.
“Okay! This is enough. It should be plenty for you!” Jiang Ruoxi smiled at Ling Kong with her beautiful eyes. Cooking for him was something she found enjoyable.
“I told you, we should just live together!” Ling Kong grinned.
The table was filled with a variety of dishes, all beautifully presented. It was clear Jiang Ruoxi had put a lot of effort into cooking, and the food was not only delicious but also made with love.
“Isn’t that basically what we’re doing?” Jiang Ruoxi smiled slightly. Most of her time was spent with Ling Kong anyway, except for when they slept. It was almost like living together.
“But how can we say we live together if we’re not sharing a bed?” Ling Kong teased, shrugging.
“Can’t you stop thinking about that all the time? I’ll give that to you later!” Jiang Ruoxi’s cheeks flushed slightly.
“So, you’re saying I can enjoy you later?” Ling Kong grinned, pulling her into his arms.
“That’s not what I meant! Now, let’s eat!” Jiang Ruoxi quickly pulled away from his embrace, guiding him to sit down. This guy could be so cheeky.
“Well, the fruit tastes sweetest when it’s ripe!” Ling Kong chuckled, “Though, you’re already quite sweet.”
Jiang Ruoxi rolled her eyes at him. She hadn’t expected him to be so smooth-talking. Then, she placed some monster crystals on a plate for Xue Er, who happily lay on the table, enjoying the treat.
“Alright, try it!” she said, offering a piece of food to Ling Kong.
Ling Kong opened his mouth, savoring the bite. “How is it?” Jiang Ruoxi asked, her eyes sparkling as she waited for his reaction.
“Hmm… It just makes me want to marry you even more,” Ling Kong replied with a satisfied nod. His words were better than any praise she could’ve received for the food.
A shy smile formed on Jiang Ruoxi’s blushing face. She loved it when Ling Kong praised her, especially in such a sweet way.
“Then, when are you going to marry me?” Jiang Ruoxi asked, her chopsticks still holding the piece she had just fed Ling Kong. Although it was still early to discuss marriage seriously, she couldn’t help but want to hear his answer.
“Whenever you want to get married, I’ll be ready,” Ling Kong smiled, tossing the question back to her.
Jiang Ruoxi glared playfully at him and replied, “If I say now, will you marry me now?”
“Of course. We could head to the altar right now!” Ling Kong said, spreading his hands.
“You’re impossible!” Jiang Ruoxi laughed. “Just the two of us? Although… maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.”
“Then… I’ll set a time, alright?” Jiang Ruoxi suggested.
Ling Kong nodded, smiling. “Sure, go ahead!”
Jiang Ruoxi gazed at Ling Kong and said, “In the future, when I ask you to marry me, you will.” The exact time couldn’t be fixed just yet, but this promise could be made. She had so much to accomplish—rebuilding the Demon Sect and finding her mother. Marriage wouldn’t be possible anytime soon. But when the time was right, she would marry Ling Kong as soon as she could.
“Alright! I’ll be waiting for my bride whenever you’re ready!” Ling Kong smiled gently. “As long as you ask me to marry you, I’ll be there, no matter where you are.”
He understood the weight of the burdens Jiang Ruoxi carried, and he also had his own responsibilities.
“That’s a promise!” Jiang Ruoxi said with a joyful smile. She reached out to hook her pinky finger with Ling Kong’s, but paused, remembering he once said that only children do that. She quickly withdrew her hand.
Ling Kong chuckled, noticing her hesitation. This goddess, he thought, could be so adorable.
The two of them had made a promise, not tied to a specific time, but it was set firmly in Jiang Ruoxi’s heart. And it was the same for Ling Kong. Whether it was him marrying her or her marrying him, it would happen when the time was right.
…
After dinner, they sat on the roof as they often did, gazing at the beautiful starry sky. Jiang Ruoxi rested her head on Ling Kong’s shoulder, with Xue’er snuggled beside her. The scene was as peaceful and perfect as the full moon above.
“Tomorrow, go to the Mission Pavilion and grab a mission.” Ling Kong said suddenly.
“Grab?” Jiang Ruoxi lifted her head, curious. Why use the word “grab”?
The Sword Cloud Sect had a Mission Pavilion where tasks were listed. Disciples could complete these tasks to earn rewards. Often, several disciples would take the same task, and the one who finished first would claim the prize.
“What kind of mission should I grab? And with whom?” she asked.
“Xia Yuran will be even more determined after losing this time,” Ling Kong explained. “After the competition, new quests will be posted, and she’ll likely be there first thing tomorrow to take one. So, you should compete with her—take the same mission she does.”
In the original plot, Xia Yu took a mission after a major event and found the second Soul Jade Crystal Fragment during it. Although Ling Kong didn’t know the exact details, he was aware of its importance.
So, the plan was for Jiang Ruoxi to take the same mission as Xia Yu, to use her luck. Even if they worked on the quest together, finding the Soul Jade Crystal would still rely on Xia Yu’s luck.
Jiang Ruoxi asked, “So, you want me to steal her luck?”
“Not steal—just use it,” Ling Kong clarified. “She may have luck, but the Soul Jade Crystal doesn’t belong to her; it belongs to you, Jiang Ruoxi.” In this case, Xia Yu was simply a tool to help them find it.
“I understand!” Jiang Ruoxi nodded. “When we take the mission, will you accompany me?”
She had been within the Sword Cloud Sect for a long time, and a change of scenery sounded nice. Getting out for a bit would be refreshing.
Ling Kong nodded. “Of course. Without me there, if you and Xia Yuran compete, her luck would probably give her the upper hand. You’d need my help to control the outcome.”
“Ling Kong?” a voice called out suddenly.
Luo Lin flew over from a distance and landed next to Ling Kong.
“Kong Kong?” Jiang Ruoxi’s brows furrowed as she heard Luo Lin’s words.
What kind of nickname was that?
It sounded childish but also oddly close.
Since when were they so familiar with each other that she could use such a name?
