Get Lost Female Protagonist! I Choose the Villainess! - Chapter 70:
Chapter 70: “The First Month of Husband”
Jiang Ruoxi thought to herself that she’d never used an intimate name for Ling Kong before. If she had, he probably wouldn’t mind. But what was Luo Lin doing, calling him “Kong Kong”?
Was this a case of an “older woman going after younger men”?
Without hesitation, Jiang Ruoxi grabbed Ling Kong’s arm tightly, showing that Ling Kong belonged to her and wasn’t up for grabs. Even though Luo Lin was powerful, she couldn’t take that from her.
“Relax, I’m not trying to steal your boyfriend!” Luo Lin chuckled, noticing Jiang Ruoxi’s possessiveness. This usually cool and composed girl was adorably protective around Ling Kong.
“Besides, even if I wanted to, I couldn’t.” Luo Lin shrugged, earning a sharp look from Ling Kong. Did she even dare to think like that?
Jiang Ruoxi clung tighter to Ling Kong’s arm, as if saying, “Exactly! He’s not available.”
“Actually, I came to apologize sincerely for what happened yesterday. It was my mistake for assuming things before I knew the truth.” Luo Lin said to Jiang Ruoxi.
“It’s fine, I’m not blaming you,” Jiang Ruoxi replied softly. To her, the real fault lay with Xia Yuran, who had twisted the story and made herself out to be a victim, even calling Jiang Ruoxi the “villain” or the “other woman” when, in truth, Xia Yuren had always acted on wishful thinking.
“Glad to hear that. You’re a good person, and you two are perfect together. I really like it.” Luo Lin nodded approvingly.
Seeing her sister’s child find someone as wonderful as Jiang Ruoxi was comforting.
“Why are you here anyway, General Luo?” Ling Kong asked.
“Can’t I just visit?” Luo Lin replied, frowning a bit before taking a seat beside him, keeping a respectful distance.
Jiang Ruoxi frowned slightly herself—was it appropriate for Luo Lin to interrupt their time together like this?
“Miss Jiang, would you be interested in serving the empire?” Luo Lin asked, turning to Jiang Ruoxi. “With your talents, you could easily rise beyond my achievements. I’d even guide you personally.”
If Ling Kong’s girlfriend joined her, Luo Lin would happily do her best to train her.
“I’m not interested,” Jiang Ruoxi replied firmly. As the Demon Sect’s young master, it wasn’t possible for her to serve the empire.
“Not interested?” Luo Lin glanced between Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi. “Well, one way or another, you may be joining us in the future!” she said, thinking that Jiang Ruoxi might one day be the empire’s future princess consort.
“Fine, then, how about you, Ling Kong?” Luo Lin asked. “I was sent to deal with a few rogue cities in the empire. Some local leaders have gotten ambitious and want to rule their territories independently,” she explained. “Attempts to subdue them have failed, but I plan to handle it personally this time. How about joining me?”
The empire’s business would one day be Ling Kong’s business anyway, so it made sense to involve him early.
Ling Kong considered her proposal. “If dealing with it now can save future trouble, then I’m interested,” he replied.
“Tomorrow, we’ll be picking up some tasks,” Ling Kong said. “After that, we could join you.”
“Great!” Luo Lin smiled, satisfied. “It’ll be fun with you two along! I’ll show you what the world’s like.”
With that, she stood up, giving them a wink. “I’ll let you lovebirds enjoy your time alone. See you tomorrow! Oh, and may you live long and have many children together!” Then, she took off, leaving them alone again.
Ling Kong shook his head, laughing. Many children? They’d only just started dating, and she was already talking about babies!
“She’s actually quite charming.” Jiang Ruoxi chuckled.
Although Luo Lin could be nosy, her easygoing nature made her surprisingly likable. As the empire’s top general, she was remarkably down-to-earth and had a warm, inviting presence.
“Or maybe she’s just bored,” Ling Kong replied with a smile. His aunt had many good traits, but she loved meddling, especially in his life—especially when it came to his relationships.
“Seems she likes you a lot.” Jiang Ruoxi remarked.
“True. She’s pretty powerful, so she naturally takes an interest in strong people,” Ling Kong replied, downplaying things. “We’re both strong, so she wants us on her side.”
“You mean she’s trying to recruit us to the empire?” Jiang Ruoxi asked.
Ling Kong nodded. “That’s likely her goal.”
“But something about the way she likes you feels a little… unusual,” Jiang Ruoxi said, pouting. “She even calls you ‘Kong Kong.’ I haven’t even called you that!”
“Only she would call me something so childish. Please don’t follow her lead!” Ling Kong sighed.
“A title like that really doesn’t suit you.” Jiang Ruoxi laughed.
Then she asked thoughtfully, “What should I call you? I don’t want to keep using just your name.”
Ling Kong raised an eyebrow. “What would you like to call me?”
Jiang Ruoxi smiled shyly. “What do you think would be a good name?”
Ling Kong grinned. “How about you call me ‘Husband’?”
Her cheeks flushed. “We’re not even married yet! How can I call you that?”
She was expecting a simple term of endearment, not that! But he had gone straight for “husband”?
“Why not? We don’t have to be married for you to call me that. Go on—say it once,” he teased.
“No way!” Jiang Ruoxi quickly turned her head to the side, avoiding his gaze.
“You can do it.” Ling Kong teased, pulling her into his embrace.
“Don’t touch me! Fine, I’ll say it—’Husband.'”
“Louder!”
“Husband…” she whispered.
“I can’t hear you!”
“Husband!!!” she finally called out, her voice ringing out under the moonlight as they laughed together.
Ling Kong’s teasing words brought a blush to her face, her cheeks glowing as she melted into his arms. Under the quiet sky, they shared a moment of joy, their laughter filling the night.
…
Later, as the Sword Cloud Sect settled into silence, Xia Yuran stepped out from the training tower alone. She was drenched in sweat, her hair slightly damp and clinging to her forehead.
Her face, drained of color, looked exhausted. Yet, after pouring everything into her training, her spirit felt renewed. She had found a new resolve.
She took a deep breath in the cool night air, speaking softly to herself: “It’s fine. A loss is just a loss; I’ll make up for it later!”
Although this defeat had stung deeply, it had also strengthened her resolve. She reminded herself to never submit to Ling Kong or Jiang Ruoxi, but rather, to rise above them. She understood now that even with no one supporting her, she would not give up.
True protagonists were shaped by overcoming hardships, and her setbacks only solidified her determination.
Gazing up at the moon, a small smile spread across her face. “This time, I lost because I didn’t work hard enough,” she murmured. “But next time… next time, I’ll come out on top.”
She took slow, steady steps back toward her residence, bathed in the moon’s calm light. When she arrived, however, she was surprised to find Bai Feng and the others gathered anxiously outside her door. Their faces lit up the moment they saw her.
“Yuran? Are you alright?” Bai Feng asked, rushing toward her, his relief evident. Without another word, he pulled her into a tight hug.
They had been searching everywhere for her, fearing the worst, and were about to inform the Sect Master. Seeing her safe, their worries finally subsided.
“I’m fine! Really, why would anything happen to me?” Xia Yuran said, gently stepping back from Bai Feng’s embrace. “I’m sorry to make you all worry.”
“Senior Sister Yuran, we looked all over for you and were so afraid something happened.” Xiao Taoyi said, wiping away a tear.
“I was on the top floor of the training tower,” Xia Yuran replied with a small smile. “Thank you, everyone, for your concern. But you should all get some rest. I’m going to bed too.” With that, she slipped into her room, closing the door behind her.
Outside, Bai Feng and the others lingered, feeling an ache in their hearts for her.
“The top floor of the training tower? So she’s been there since the competition? I can barely last two hours with the pressure up there!” someone murmured, shocked.
“Even though she’s reached the Spirit Martial Realm, staying up there that long is incredibly grueling!”
“I never even thought to check there. Poor Xia Yuran,” another sighed. “She must have really been devastated this time.”
“Senior Sister Yuran is so pitiful,” Xiao Taoyi whispered. “And that Ling Kong! I used to admire him, but now… he doesn’t seem like a man at all! I despise him!”
