Chapter 76: Xia Yuran, So You Have a Thick Skin?:

The moment Li Junting suggested “dealing with” Ling Kong, Xia Yuran turned her gaze to him.

Was he really going to handle Ling Kong for her?

“This is Black Rain City, not the Sword Cloud Sect,” Li Junting sneered. “Here, Ling Kong is nothing more than a 1st stage Spirit Martial Realm cultivator. You can do whatever you want with him, Junior Sister Yuran. What would you like to do?”

Xia Yuran’s eyes drifted to Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi, who were seated across the room, chatting and laughing. On the table, the adorable young Ice Phantom Wolf cub lounged contentedly. The sight reignited her jealousy and anger. She wanted revenge. She wanted Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi to experience failure and humiliation, just as she had.

This wasn’t the Sword Cloud Sect—this was Black Rain City. Here, Ling Kong’s reputation and status meant nothing. In the sect, he was among the best, but out here, the rules of their world didn’t apply. This was Li Junting’s territory, where he had power at his disposal.

Although confronting Ling Kong like this felt a bit wrong, memories of how he had treated her in the past filled Xia Yuran’s mind. She remembered the humiliation she faced in the Grand Valley and the Blind Sword Pavilion. Why not turn the tables now? She could show Ling Kong that outside the Sword Cloud Sect, he was nothing special.

“Senior Brother Li, help me.” Xia Yuran said resolutely.

“With pleasure!” Li Junting grinned, cracking his neck. In the Sword Cloud Sect, he couldn’t give Xia Yuran the support she needed, but in Black Rain City, he had every advantage. He would make sure to help her shine.

Turning to his followers, he commanded, “Go gather some more people. We have some work to do!”

If they were going to make a statement, they would do it thoroughly.

Li Junting wanted to ensure Ling Kong understood there was no place for him in Black Rain City—no peace, no comfort, and no chance to leave without a fight.

“Understood!” The attendants nodded and hurried off to gather reinforcements. Meanwhile, Li Junting, with Xia Yuran by his side, approached Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi.

“Well, well, it seems our paths cross on Li family territory.” Li Junting said with a cold smile.

Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi immediately noticed Xia Yuran and Li Junting approaching. It was clear what they intended to do. Having lost face previously, they were now looking for a way to reclaim it. But this was Li family territory, and Li Junting seemed to think that gave him an advantage.

Ling Kong, however, merely smiled. “What a coincidence.”

Was Li Junting really from the Li family?

Ling Kong thought to himself. How convenient, since today’s mission involves dealing with the Li family.

“It’s not a coincidence. It’s your misfortune.” Li Junting said coldly, staring at Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi. “Enjoying your meal, are you?”

Jiang Ruoxi glanced at Xia Yuran and the Li family followers behind her. These men were strong, ranging from the 2nd to 3rd stage Spirit Martial Realm cultivators. Clearly, Xia Yuran and Li Junting intended to settle old scores.

Without a word, Jiang Ruoxi picked up the young Ice Phantom Wolf cub from the table and spoke to Ling Kong, “I’m full. Let’s go.”

She waved her hand and placed 50 spirit stones on the table—not out of fear but out of complete disregard for their opponents.

“Leaving so soon?” Li Junting sneered. “50 spirit stones? Since when is a meal in Black Rain City so cheap?”

“The total cost was 50 spirit stones, Young City Lord,” the restaurant owner stammered, sensing trouble.

“50? Is that all? Say it again. How much?” Li Junting demanded, his eyes cold.

The owner hesitated, intimidated. “1-100…”

“How much?” Li Junting cut him off before he could finish.

“2… 200 spirit stones,” the owner corrected himself quickly. He glanced apologetically at Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi. He had no desire to deceive anyone, but he also couldn’t afford to offend the Li family.

“Go on! How much?” Li Junting pressed, his tone menacing.

“500 spirit stones?” the owner tried, his voice trembling.

“Keep going!” Li Junting insisted.

“1,000… 1,000 spirit stones,” the owner blurted out, fear evident in his voice.

“And?” Li Junting sneered. “It seems you think the price of food and drink in your restaurant is up to me, don’t you?”

“Whatever the Young City Lord says is the price,” the owner nodded helplessly, forced to comply.

“Good. Then I’ll set the price for this meal,” Li Junting declared, his eyes gleaming with malice.

Li Junting sneered coldly and turned to Ling Kong. “One price: 10 million spirit stones.”

At these words, the restaurant owner’s eyes widened in shock.

10 million spirit stones?

Was this some kind of cruel joke?

Even the City Lord’s Mansion couldn’t possibly demand such a ridiculous sum. But, fearing the wrath of the young city lord, he stayed silent. The two outsiders, unfortunately, had drawn Li Junting’s attention.

People in the restaurant and nearby quietly began to leave. Anything involving the Li family was best avoided. No one wanted to be caught in their affairs.

“Alright, you two. 10 million spirit stones. Pay up!” Li Junting said, his eyes gleaming with malice as he stared at Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi. Jiang Ruoxi shot a cold glance at Xia Yuran, who stood silently by Li Junting’s side, clearly supporting him.

At this moment, any previous feelings of rivalry Jiang Ruoxi had for Xia Yuran hardened into pure disgust. Before, she saw Xia Yuran as a mere rival. Later, when she realized that Xia Yuran had no real connection with Ling Kong, she considered her nothing more than a fellow disciple. But now, seeing Xia Yuran stoop to this level of petty revenge alongside Li Junting made her sick. This was jealousy and ugliness on full display.

Jiang Ruoxi had no desire to deal with Xia Yuran, but since Xia Yuran had brought this upon herself, there was no avoiding it. 10 million spirit stones for a 50 spirit stones? Such audacity. Did they really think they could extort a prince?

Jiang Ruoxi stayed silent, choosing to see how this would play out.

“Well? Are you going to pay up?” Li Junting mocked, his tone dripping with contempt. “Or is this a case of freeloading? In my Black Rain City, that’s not tolerated. As the young city lord, it’s my duty to deal with such matters.”

Ling Kong remained unfazed, his expression calm. He had anticipated such a situation. “And what do you intend to do about it?” he asked lightly.

“What do you think I’ll do?” Li Junting sneered, as a few of his attendants closed in.

“Do you really think you have what it takes to handle me?” Ling Kong asked, a faint smile playing on his lips.

“Do you know what I can’t stand about you, Ling Kong?” Li Junting growled, his teeth clenched. “It’s your arrogant attitude. This is Black Rain City, not the Sword Cloud Sect. Your strength means nothing here.”

“Here, you’re just a 1st stage Spirit Martial cultivator,” Li Junting continued. “You think you can go against the Li family with that? Be smart and obey me.”

In the Sword Cloud Sect, Li Junting had neither the power nor the courage to challenge Ling Kong. But here, in Black Rain City, he was confident he could do whatever he pleased.

“So here’s the deal. Return the Ice Phantom Wolf cub and the sword you took from the Blind Sword Pavilion to Junior Sister Yuran,” Li Junting demanded. “And, apologize sincerely. Do that, and I’ll let this meal slide.”

Ling Kong turned his gaze to Xia Yuran. “Is that what you want? Do you think these things belong to you?”

Xia Yuran didn’t respond, but her silence spoke volumes. She believed they were rightfully hers.

“I didn’t realize, Xia Yuran, that you were this shameless,” Ling Kong said with a calm but cutting tone.

“You—!” Xia Yuran’s expression darkened.

Shameless? How dare he say that? She believed the Ice Phantom Wolf cub and the sword should have been hers. And Ling Kong—he should have been hers too, not Jiang Ruoxi’s.

“Enough, Ling Kong!” Li Junting snapped. “This is your chance. Return what belongs to Yumeng and apologize.”

“Or,” he added with a sneer, “pay the 10 million.”

“Otherwise, don’t blame me for being harsh.”

As he spoke, the spiritual energy of his followers began to stir. They were ready to strike.
