Chapter 2: Compensation Is a Must!

The elders of the Heavenly Mystic Sect looked at Qin Yun with some concern.

Was he stepping out now to beg Lin Huaiyue to stay?

It was entirely possible—after all, Qin Yun had treated Lin Huaiyue extremely well these past two years.

Two years of devotion, just thrown away.

There was no way Qin Yun could accept that easily. If he did plead with her to stay, it would be a complete disgrace for the sect—but they had no say in it.

Qin Yun was the Young Master. No matter what he decided, they would support him.

“Qin Yun, I’ve already made myself very clear. Our engagement is over. Stop pestering me,” Lin Huaiyue said with visible annoyance. Luckily, she had severed ties with Qin Yun, or else, with his clingy personality, he would have been even more troublesome in the future.

“You think you can end our engagement just like that?” Qin Yun looked at her coldly. “If it’s going to be broken, I’m the one who decides. When did you gain the right to cancel it?”

“You…” Lin Huaiyue’s expression darkened. She didn’t expect Qin Yun to be this assertive.

“You want to leave the Heavenly Mystic Sect? Fine. But everything you’ve consumed here in the past two years—the spiritual medicine and the sect’s resources—you’ll return every bit of it!” Qin Yun’s voice was domineering.

The Grand Elder and the others breathed a sigh of relief.

As long as he wasn’t begging her to stay, that was enough. Qin Yun’s sudden assertiveness also surprised them. He’d always been gentle and reserved—never this forceful. The Grand Elder couldn’t help but sigh. Love truly was a strange thing, capable of awakening and changing a person so quickly.

“What did you just say? You want my disciple to cough up two years’ worth of spiritual medicine? Did I hear you right?” the Beastmaster’s face turned cold.

The black serpent-dragon suddenly raised its head and let out a thunderous roar. The mountains echoed as thousands of demonic beasts roared in unison. The Heavenly Mystic Sect’s gates trembled violently.

Disciples with lower cultivation levels turned pale and broke into a sweat, but they still held tightly to their weapons.

“You’re really going to do this? You want my disciple to return everything she took? Does his word represent your sect’s stance?” the Beastmaster said coldly, his serpent-dragon hissing as it stared them down with chilling eyes.

The Grand Elder nodded. “The Young Master’s will is the sect’s will. Whatever he says, stands.”

“Lin Huaiyue must give an explanation to our Heavenly Mystic Sect and to the Young Master,” the other elders echoed, circulating true qi and preparing for battle at any moment.

The Beastmaster’s expression darkened further.

“I want to see what you people are capable of!” he growled. A terrifying pressure erupted from his body.

The black serpent-dragon rose up, mouth wide open, its crimson tongue flicking and its sharp venomous fangs gleaming coldly. The Eight Beast Commanders also moved, their mounts growling deeply. The demonic beasts blanketing the mountains began advancing toward the Heavenly Mystic Sect.

The Grand Elder and the others were tense, firmly holding their ground despite the overwhelming pressure.

“Sound the ninth beat of the Heavenly Mystic Drum! Call the Ancestor out of seclusion!” the Grand Elder shouted.

“Grand Elder, isn’t that too drastic?” the Second Elder asked gravely. The ninth beat meant things were dire—enough to threaten the entire sect.

“Their feet are already on our necks, humiliating our sect and the Young Master. Should we just let them trample us?” The usually refined Grand Elder now roared in fury. “If they dare step on our heads, then we break their damned legs!”

“Strike the Heavenly Mystic Drum!”

“Strike it now!”

“They’ve humiliated our sect and our Young Master. They must pay the price!”

“Call out the Ancestor! We’ll storm the Myriad Beasts Sect together!”

The elders’ eyes turned red with fury. Especially the hot-tempered ones—if not for the Grand Elder holding them back, they would’ve already charged in.

Boom!

The ninth beat of the Heavenly Mystic Drum echoed throughout the sect, shaking the sky before slowly fading away.

Then, thunder cracked through the sect. Everyone’s ears rang. Even the Beastmaster temporarily lost his hearing.

A streak of crimson lightning split through the void and slammed down in front of the Beastmaster.

Boom!

The ground quaked. The lightning gouged a deep crater into the earth. Sparks from the blast shattered several of the serpent-dragon’s scales, making it wail in agony as blood gushed from its wounds.

The Beastmaster’s robes were torn in multiple places. If he hadn’t dodged behind the serpent-dragon, he would’ve been seriously injured.

Lin Huaiyue’s face paled. She never imagined the Heavenly Mystic Sect had such a powerful Ancestor. Why hadn’t Qin Yun told her?

So he didn’t truly care for me. He couldn’t even be honest about the Ancestor’s existence. Thankfully, I cut ties in time, she thought, feeling relieved at her decision. Otherwise, she would have been doomed.

The Beastmaster clenched his jaw and shouted, “What, are you trying to bully others with your strength?”

“Young Master, how do you want to resolve this? Whatever you decide, our entire sect will back you,” the Ancestor’s voice resounded with immense authority.

“As I said before—Lin Huaiyue must return all the spiritual medicine she consumed over the past two years in our sect,” Qin Yun declared.

“Understood,” the Ancestor replied, and his voice carried directly into the Beastmaster’s ears. “You heard the Young Master. Compensate, or fight.”

“That’s right. Compensate, or fight!”

“Our sect is fully prepared to strike!”

The Beastmaster’s face twitched.

Under the Ancestor’s terrifying aura, he knew persisting would only lead to loss. He had already recruited Lin Huaiyue—this wasn’t a total loss.

“I don’t have that much on me. I’ll pay part now and the rest later,” the Beastmaster said darkly.

“Young Master, is that acceptable?” the Ancestor asked.

“Fine. Pay part now. I’ll come personally to collect the rest later,” Qin Yun replied.

The Beastmaster sneered internally. If Qin Yun dared come to the Myriad Beasts Sect, even the Ancestor wouldn’t return alive.

Still, the Beastmaster retrieved a stash of spiritual medicine from his belongings. It hurt—these were high-quality resources gathered over a year. Parting with them stung.

The Grand Elder accepted the compensation.

“We’re leaving,” the Beastmaster snapped, glaring at the sect as he took Lin Huaiyue and the Eight Beast Commanders with him. The horde of demonic beasts also retreated.

From beginning to end, Lin Huaiyue didn’t glance at Qin Yun even once. There was no need. They were no longer part of the same world. She would rise quickly in the Myriad Beasts Sect and might one day become a top figure among the younger generation in southern Qingzhou. Eventually, she would stand among elite cultivators.

As for Qin Yun… he would only ever look up at her.

Watching her leave, many elders were filled with rage. The sect had painstakingly cultivated a future top-tier cultivator, only for the Myriad Beasts Sect to steal her away.

“It’s just as well she left,” the Grand Elder said. “With a heart like hers, she would have brought us nothing but trouble.”

The others understood this was just self-consolation. But what else could they do?

The Grand Elder turned to Qin Yun and said, “Young Master, don’t take it to heart. Consider it bad luck—you just misjudged a person.”

“Thank you, Grand Elder, and thank you all for standing by me.”

“We’re family. No need for thanks.”

“You are the Young Master of our Heavenly Mystic Sect. Of course we’ll support you,” the elders said, not quite sure how to comfort him.

“These are for you,” the Grand Elder handed over the spiritual medicine.

“I don’t need them. Keep them,” Qin Yun shook his head.

“How could you not need them? Take them and cultivate well. I believe that one day, you’ll astonish the world,” the Grand Elder said, forcing the medicine into Qin Yun’s hands.

Astonish the world?

Qin Yun recalled Lin Huaiyue’s parting gaze—full of disdain and contempt. She had never respected him. Because his talent was ordinary, and his future held no promise.

Looking at the Grand Elder and the others, he remembered how the Beastmaster had threatened their gates. If not for the Ancestor’s intervention, the Heavenly Mystic Sect might have been soaked in blood.

The Ancestor had forced the Beastmaster to kneel and compensate—but that was because of sheer power. This was a world where the strong ruled. Without strength, there was no respect. No dignity.

If not for the sect’s protection, could he still live so freely?

How long could the Heavenly Mystic Sect shield him?

A few years?

A few decades?

A lifetime?

Qin Yun didn’t know. But he knew one thing—he couldn’t go on like this.

Returning to his residence, Qin Yun entered the secret chamber and faced the stunning woman.

“Senior, I’ve made up my mind. I’m ready to absorb the Swallowing Heaven Divine Veins!”
