Chapter 6: Cheng Yao

Chen Tianyou whipped his head around and found Su Ling glaring at him.

“Chen! Tian! You!” Su Ling ground out his name word by word through clenched teeth.

“C-Class monitor!” Chen Tianyou was so startled he nearly jumped.

Crap!

She must’ve heard everything he said to Zhang Kai just now—including offering money to switch seats.

This was bad. She probably hated him even more now.

“Who did you call a ‘beauty that brings disaster’?!” Su Ling stepped right up to him.

She pouted, hands on her hips, eyes blazing like they could shoot fire. She stared fiercely at Chen Tianyou.

“You’re the beauty, I’m the disaster!” Chen Tianyou quickly lowered his head and answered.

Su Ling stared at him for a few more seconds, then squeezed out her words from between her teeth, “Chen Tianyou, I hate you! Don’t talk to me ever again!”

With that, she turned and stormed back to her seat.

Done for! Completely done for!

Chen Tianyou felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured over his heart.

Great, now he’d made things even worse by trying to fix them.

Forget it. Since no one was willing to switch seats, he’d just accept his fate and remain Su Ling’s deskmate.

As long as he didn’t provoke her anymore, it should be fine.

The rest of the day passed quickly.

Su Ling didn’t say a single word to Chen Tianyou.

But that wasn’t even the hardest part for him.

Ever since school started, Chen Tianyou had basically spent every class sleeping. The teachers might as well have been speaking an alien language for all he understood.

Anyone who loves to sleep in class knows—once that time of day hits and the teacher starts talking, it’s like a lullaby. You can’t help but doze off.

Add to that the body clock he had built around sleeping during class, and his eyelids were in an all-day battle.

But he was afraid of snoring and disturbing Su Ling, so he forced himself to stay awake.

Wanting to sleep but not being able to? That’s real suffering!

Finally, when the school bell rang, Chen Tianyou let out a long sigh of relief and quickly packed his things to go home.

At the school gate, Zhang Kai caught up to him.

“Brother Tianyou, why are you walking so fast? I could barely keep up!” Zhang Kai panted as he spoke.

“School’s over. What are you chasing me for?” Chen Tianyou looked puzzled.

“Hehe, it’s getting late, Brother Tianyou. How about we grab a bite and then swing by Paradise Lounge to chill for a bit?” Zhang Kai grinned knowingly.

“Chill? Chill how?”

“Don’t tell me you forgot, Brother Tianyou! Of course I mean calling a couple of girls to sing and dance with us!”

“Get lost! Do I look like someone who’d do that?” Chen Tianyou shot him a look of disdain.

“Brother Tianyou, you don’t just look like it—you ARE that kind of person!” Zhang Kai looked innocent.

Chen Tianyou was momentarily speechless.

Come to think of it, that really was his character in the original novel.

As a spoiled Rich Second-Generation Heir, going to high-end clubs and burning cash like it was nothing was totally his style.

But the current Chen Tianyou wasn’t into that anymore.

“Not today. I’m not in the mood. Maybe next time. Also, stop always thinking about partying. Focus on your studies for once. Have you seen how stressed your dad is about your grades?” Chen Tianyou said earnestly.

In the original plot, Zhang Kai wasn’t a bad guy—he just ended up going down the wrong path because of Chen Tianyou’s influence.

Now that Chen Tianyou had been reborn, he figured he could still save Zhang Kai, so he decided to give it a shot.

“Uh… Brother Tianyou, hit me!” Zhang Kai froze in place.

Was this really the same Brother Tianyou?

He was telling him to study hard?

Smack!

Chen Tianyou lightly slapped him across the face.

“What kind of weird hobby is that? I’ve never seen anyone ask to be slapped before.”

“That wasn’t hard enough. One more!”

Smack!

Chen Tianyou hit him again.

“How’s that one?”

“Ouch! That really hurt!”

“Okay, this isn’t a dream. Did the sun rise in the west today? Brother Tianyou’s seriously preaching to me now?”

“Alright, I’m done with your nonsense. Go home!” Chen Tianyou said, rolling his eyes and flipping him off.

Before he transmigrated, Chen Tianyou had been a model young man—his character had always been solid.

Zhang Kai nodded half-understandingly, then turned and headed in the opposite direction.

After the two of them left, a small boy on the roadside dropped his ice cream.

“Xuanxuan, why are you just standing there?” A mother rushed over and picked him up.

“Mommy, I just saw one guy asking another guy to slap him. And he actually did it. Twice!”

“Don’t be silly, kid. Who would be dumb enough to ask someone to slap them? You must have imagined it. Come on, let’s go home.”

…

“Lin Mo, you’re not leaving?” Xia Qiang looked at Lin Mo curiously by the school gate.

“It’s nothing, Qiangzi. You go on ahead. I’ve got something to take care of. See you tomorrow.”

“Oh, alright then. See you tomorrow.”

Leaning against the wall near the gate, Lin Mo slowly closed his eyes.

Before long, a graceful figure emerged from the school building.

Lin Mo slightly opened his eyes. At a glance, he recognized her and quickly shut them again.

It was Cheng Yao—the other female lead whom Lin Mo had liked since childhood.

She wore a simple white blouse with a navy-blue school skirt, the hem gently swaying in the breeze.

Her face was delicate, brows like painted mountains, eyes like clear autumn water.

She had an elegant, almost ethereal beauty.

All day, Cheng Yao had been feeling down.

Ever since Lin Mo stopped pursuing her, her daily life had started to feel… off.

No more Lin Mo waiting for her before and after school.

No more thoughtfully prepared breakfasts.

No more morning, noon, and night greetings.

No more casual check-ins or caring messages.

No more little surprises out of nowhere.

She hadn’t quite gotten used to life without Lin Mo.

It was a strange feeling, one she couldn’t explain.

There were several times when she almost approached Lin Mo for a serious talk, but her pride held her back every time.

Lost in thought, Cheng Yao wandered forward.

Suddenly, she noticed a familiar silhouette by the school gate.

That silhouette was far too familiar—he had followed behind her since her school days began.

At a glance, she recognized Lin Mo instantly.

He used to stand in that very spot every day after school, waiting for her.

After hesitating for a moment, Cheng Yao gathered her courage and walked up to him.

She felt that she should talk to Lin Mo—at the very least, even if they couldn’t be lovers, they could still be friends, right?

At this moment, Lin Mo was incredibly excited inside.

Everything was unfolding exactly according to the original plot.

It had only been a few days, and Cheng Yao couldn’t hold back anymore?

As expected, without him around, she felt like each day was endless.

But he couldn’t say much to her yet.

Because Lin Mo knew—Cheng Yao hadn’t truly fallen for him yet.

Only when she fully accepted the reality of his departure would she awaken to her feelings and start chasing after him instead.

So for now… he had to endure just a little longer.
