I, The Villain, Just Wanted to Be a Nobody, So How Did I Become the Protagonist? - Chapter 7:
Chapter 7: Dinner Invitation
“Lin Mo…” Cheng Yao’s lips moved slightly before she finally spoke.
Hearing her, Lin Mo suppressed the joy in his heart and looked at her calmly, “Oh, it’s Cheng Yao. Is something the matter?”
“Lin Mo, were you waiting for me here? Let’s go home together. I happen to have something I want to talk to you about…”
“Sorry, Cheng Yao,” Lin Mo interrupted her. “I wasn’t waiting for you. I have other things to do. I already made it very clear last time—I won’t bother you again, so don’t worry.”
After speaking, Lin Mo lowered his head slightly in a melancholic pose, revealing the side profile he believed looked especially handsome.
His cold attitude left Cheng Yao stunned, standing frozen in place.
“You…” Cheng Yao bit her lip tightly as a wave of bitterness spread through her chest.
“If there’s nothing else, you should head back,” Lin Mo said impatiently as he took a few steps away.
Seeing Lin Mo’s clear rejection, Cheng Yao eventually sighed and walked away with disappointment.
She didn’t understand—she had just rejected Lin Mo’s confession the same way she always had. Why did he react so strongly this time?
Before, even after she rejected him, Lin Mo would always continue trying to win her over.
But now, why had everything changed?
She simply wanted to focus on studying and get into a good university. Was it wrong to not accept someone’s confession?
Honestly, Cheng Yao didn’t exactly dislike Lin Mo. Over the years, he had always taken care of her with great attention. In her heart, she had always seen him as an older brother from next door.
But now, could they not even be friends anymore?
As Cheng Yao walked away looking incredibly disheartened, Lin Mo’s lips curled upward slightly.
Cheng Yao, it’s not that I don’t like you anymore. It’s just that I can’t get too close to you right now. Only when you truly feel what it’s like to lose me will you know how to cherish me.
Ah, this damn irresistible charm of mine!
Lin Mo flicked his hair from his forehead.
He pulled out his phone, anxiously waiting.
What’s going on? The timing should be just right!
This morning, he had deliberately gone to the intersection near the city government building. When a car sped toward them, he pushed Su Ling’s father out of the way, saving his life.
According to the original timeline, Su Ling’s father should be calling him by now to invite him over for a visit!
Then Su Ling’s father would praise the man who saved his life right in front of her.
When Su Ling discovered that the new transfer student was actually the one who saved her father, her impression of Lin Mo would skyrocket!
And from there, she would begin to notice Lin Mo, and through their daily interactions, the two of them would eventually become a couple!
This plotline was flawless!
My dear Su Ling, wait for me!
Suddenly, his phone rang.
Lin Mo quickly calmed himself and answered the call.
“Hello? Who is this?”
“Is this Lin Mo?” came a deep voice on the other end, which Lin Mo instantly recognized as Su Ling’s father.
“Yes, that’s me. And you are?” Lin Mo feigned ignorance.
“It’s me! The man you saved today at the city government intersection. Are you free tonight? I’d like to treat you to a meal and properly thank you!”
“I don’t think that’s necessary. Anyone would have helped in a situation like that. Besides, I have to study tonight. The College Entrance Exam is coming up, and I need to make the most of every minute!” Lin Mo declined directly.
This rejection was just right—it showed that he was someone who cared deeply about studying and didn’t seek rewards for helping others.
Sure enough, the man’s tone changed to admiration after hearing Lin Mo’s response.
“I didn’t expect you to be such a hardworking student! Truly impressive! Still, please come over. If you don’t, I’ll feel very uneasy.”
“Oh, right! My daughter is also preparing for the College Entrance Exam. You two might even be classmates. I’d like to introduce you. Young people like you are really rare nowadays!”
Lin Mo was ecstatic inside.
Just like that, he had already gained his future father-in-law’s approval.
Life after rebirth really is sweet!
Knowing that rejecting any further would seem overly pretentious, Lin Mo decided it was time to agree. Everything had to be done in moderation.
So Lin Mo responded in a reluctant tone, “Alright then. But just so we’re clear, I’ll have to leave right after dinner—I really need to study hard.”
“Great, it’s settled then! The address is No.17 Changhong Road…”
After hanging up, Lin Mo immediately hopped on a bus to head over.
…
On the way home, Chen Tianyou was driving a convertible, feeling a sense of joy he couldn’t quite describe.
He never imagined that at his age, he’d be able to drive such a fancy car.
In real life, a person’s fate is pretty much set from the moment they’re born. Most of what you’re not born with, you’ll never get in this lifetime.
Before transmigrating into this novel, Chen Tianyou had lived in poverty during his school years. Sometimes, he couldn’t even afford to eat.
He had desperately longed for a better life, free from the hardship of his turbulent childhood.
To achieve that dream, he worked tirelessly, day and night, eventually finding success.
But now, all of that was in the past.
Soon, he pulled the car up in front of a luxurious villa in a wealthy neighborhood.
The villa had a grand classical design, with neatly trimmed lawns and flowerbeds flanking the entrance.
This was Chen Tianyou’s home.
Just as he was about to push the door open, he heard a noisy commotion from inside.
“Maybe you should call your brother?”
“Why would I call him? He’s not my brother in my eyes!”
Inside the house, a mother and daughter were sitting at the dining table, preparing to eat.
“Still, you’re family. Maybe I should call him.”
As the mother reached for her phone, the daughter stood up angrily and snatched it away.
“Mom, don’t call him!” Chen Zhilei said furiously. “You’ve seen everything Chen Tianyou has done over the years! Just pretend he’s dead, okay?”
“Don’t speak like that. No matter what, he’s still your brother.”
“Hah, brother? What kind of brother gives away his own family’s money for nothing? Ever since Chen Tianyou fell for Ye Ningshuang, he’s been signing loss-making contracts with her company using ours! In just a few years, he’s cost the company billions. We’re on the verge of bankruptcy now!”
“That Ye Ningshuang—anyone with a brain can see she’s just stringing him along. If we didn’t have money, she would’ve kicked Chen Tianyou to the curb a long time ago.”
