In My Vice Raid, the Suspect Turned Out to Be My Childhood Fiancee! - Chapter 2:
Chapter 2: The Fierce Police Take Action, Citywide Manhunt!
Huli Police Station, Director’s Office.
The ashtray was already stuffed full of cigarette butts. Director Gu Yongjun’s square face was so dark it looked like it could drip water. He paced back and forth in the cramped office, cursing under his breath.
“Damn Wang Boda, he really knows how to pick a place! Xiamen is so huge, and he just had to run into our Huli District!”
Instructor Xu Yangming stood nearby, holding an enamel mug, blowing at the steam with a worried expression. “Old Gu, you can curse all you want, that bastard won’t hear you. The Municipal Bureau has issued a strict order. They want him alive, and if not, then his body. All the pressure’s landed on us now.”
Gu Yongjun dropped heavily into his chair and slapped the desk so hard it banged loudly. “How can I not be anxious? An A-level wanted criminal! Three years ago in Z Province, he killed two people and seriously injured two of our brothers!”
“A desperate fugitive like that roaming into our jurisdiction. How is that any different from a walking bomb?”
On the desk lay an open file, displaying a photo and profile of the suspect Wang Boda.
The man in the photo had a vicious glare. A hideous scar stretched from the corner of his left eyebrow all the way down to the corner of his mouth.
“The worst part is that this bastard is extremely cunning. Top-tier counter-surveillance skills. The Municipal Bureau’s cameras only caught him entering one of the urban villages in our jurisdiction. After that, he vanished like he evaporated.”
Xu Yangming sighed, the lines on his face deepening. “You know the situation at our station. Our equipment is the oldest in the city. We barely have enough manpower. We’ve got more auxiliary officers than regular officers. For the past few years, our performance rankings have been dead last every single time. I’m almost too embarrassed to write the year-end summary.”
“If… and I mean if, something goes wrong during the operation and civilians get hurt, the hats on our heads will both be knocked off.”
The atmosphere in the office was suffocating.
Gu Yongjun irritably reached for another cigarette, only to find the pack empty. He crushed the empty box into a ball and hurled it into the trash can.
“By the way,” he suddenly said, as if remembering something, his eyes lighting up. “Didn’t we just get a trainee? Called… Li Fan?”
Xu Yangming nearly spat out his tea and shook his head repeatedly. “Director, please spare me.”
“A green kid fresh out of the police academy. He’s not even familiar with basic procedures yet. He’s probably barely handled a gun a few times. At a moment like this, we should be grateful if he doesn’t cause trouble. And you expect him to catch a wanted criminal?”
The light in Gu Yongjun’s eyes dimmed again. He knew that was true. He had only grasped at straws in his urgency.
A trainee really wouldn’t be of much use in a mission of this level.
“Sigh…” He leaned heavily against the back of his chair, his face full of helplessness.
Xu Yangming patted his shoulder and stood up. “Well, there’s no turning back now. We can only do our best. Everyone’s here. Let’s go say a few words and assign the tasks.”
Gu Yongjun nodded, straightened his uniform, and walked out with Xu Yangming, both wearing grave expressions.
At the same time, the atmosphere on the training ground of Huli Police Station had already grown tense.
Li Fan had rushed back to the station at top speed. The moment he stepped through the gate, he sensed an unusual killing intent in the air.
On the ground, thirty to forty officers and auxiliary officers in uniform were already lined up. They stood in small groups, whispering among themselves.
“Old Zhang, know what’s going on? Such a big mobilization. They even called back the ones on break.”
“What else could it be? Didn’t you see the news? There was a home invasion robbery and murder case in the city. I heard the methods were especially brutal.”
“No way. Seriously? Did they catch the killer?”
“If they caught him, would they need to call us all back? I heard from some inside gossip that the guy… might have run into our Huli District.”
“Hiss—”
A wave of sharp inhalations spread. Everyone’s expressions turned solemn.
They were just grassroots station officers. Most of the time, they dealt with trivial neighborhood disputes and petty theft. Who would have thought they’d be facing a vicious murderer?
Li Fan stood at the end of the formation, listening quietly.
Unlike the others, his heartbeat wasn’t racing from nervousness. Instead, it was filled with barely suppressed excitement.
A murderer? A wanted criminal?
Ha!
I just started as a trainee officer, and I’m already encountering a case this big?
At that moment, Gu Yongjun and Xu Yangming appeared on the platform at the front of the ground.
All chatter stopped instantly. The formation straightened. Every pair of eyes focused forward.
Gu Yongjun stepped up to the microphone. His sharp gaze swept across everyone present. His voice was loud and stern.
“Comrades, we have urgently recalled everyone because of an extremely serious criminal case that requires full mobilization!”
“Last night, a home invasion robbery and murder occurred in the city. Of the three victims in the household, two died on the spot and one was seriously injured and is still undergoing emergency treatment! The brutality and arrogance of the suspect are simply shocking!”
The officers below erupted into murmurs. Though they had suspected as much, hearing it confirmed by the Director still struck them hard.
“After overnight investigation by the Municipal Criminal Investigation Division, the suspect’s identity has been confirmed!”
Gu Yongjun’s voice suddenly rose, barely containing his fury. “He is the A-level wanted criminal who has been on the run for three years, Wang Boda! This man carries multiple lives on his back, is extremely vicious, and is very likely armed!”
“According to the latest intelligence, Wang Boda has fled into our Huli District!”
The words fell like a heavy bomb into the crowd.
A-level wanted criminal. Armed. In their own jurisdiction.
Each word weighed like a massive stone on everyone’s heart.
“I know you’re all nervous. So am I!” Gu Yongjun’s gaze became unshakably firm. “But we are police officers! Our duty is to protect the lives and property of the people! Behind us are countless households and their peace!”
“Superior command orders Huli Police Station to cooperate fully with the Municipal Bureau and launch a comprehensive manhunt for Wang Boda at any cost! We absolutely cannot allow this tumor to harm another innocent citizen on our turf!”
“Now I order!”
Gu Yongjun’s voice echoed across the entire ground. “All personnel cancel leave. Everyone on duty! Form teams of two and conduct carpet-style searches of all hotels, internet cafés, rental housing, abandoned construction sites, and any other possible hiding places within our jurisdiction!”
“If you discover any suspicious individuals, report immediately. No one is allowed to act without authorization!”
“Do you understand?!”
“Understood!”
The thunderous reply carried a trace of tragic resolve.
“Good! Dismissed! Move out immediately!”
With Gu Yongjun’s command, the formation dispersed rapidly. Officers paired up, collected equipment, and the entire police station sprang into motion like a finely tuned war machine, roaring to life at full speed.
