In My Vice Raid, the Suspect Turned Out to Be My Childhood Fiancee! - Chapter 4:
Chapter 4: Don’t Get Carried Away. Who Do You Think You Are?
Shan Xingteng was still rambling on, his spit nearly hitting Li Fan’s helmet, but Li Fan seemed not to hear a word. His gaze remained fixed on “Yushui Club” across the street.
He calmly withdrew his eyes and put on a serious, attentive expression. “Brother Teng, I’ve taken in everything you said. But… I have a question.”
“Ask!” Shan Xingteng waved his hand grandly, full of confidence.
“You said we shouldn’t get carried away or think about making contributions. Just keep ourselves safe.”
Li Fan’s tone was sincere, like a fresh graduate filled with idealism. “But we’re police officers. If we clearly know that place across the street is a den of criminals, full of bad people, are we supposed to pretend we didn’t see anything and just walk away?”
Shan Xingteng froze for a moment, then laughed. There was a hint of worldly weariness in that smile, along with faint ridicule toward a rookie’s innocence.
“Xiao Li, your attitude is commendable. Worth praising. But reality isn’t a movie. What do we rely on when handling cases? Guesswork? Without evidence, arresting someone is a violation. Do you understand? Instead of earning merit, you’ll end up with disciplinary action first.”
“Brother Teng, what if it’s a wanted criminal? Like Wang Boda. If we run into him, do we still need evidence? If we don’t arrest him directly, are we supposed to turn a blind eye?”
Shan Xingteng burst out laughing at the bold hypothetical. He steered the motorcycle aside and leaned against it, as if preparing to properly educate his naive junior.
“Of course we can’t ignore it. But then what? You rush up to arrest him? Xiao Li, I’m not trying to discourage you, but just the two of us, with our small builds. If we run into a desperate fugitive and he swings a knife at you, can you even react?”
He pointed at himself, then at Li Fan. “We grassroots officers are lucky if we catch a few petty thieves. An A-level wanted criminal? You think they’re cabbages growing everywhere? If you really run into one, you won’t even have a chance to fight back. He might even have a gun!”
Shan Xingteng was getting more animated, as if already picturing Li Fan trembling in fear. “You think an A-level wanted criminal…”
Before he could finish, there was a sharp whoosh of wind by his ear.
From the corner of his eye, he caught only a blur. Li Fan, who had just been listening obediently, suddenly shot out like a hunting leopard without warning.
His target was “Yushui Club” across the street.
“Holy hell! Li Fan!” Shan Xingteng’s eyes nearly popped out of his head, and his heart skipped a beat.
At the entrance of Yushui Club, the fat lobby manager Xiao Chengji was bowing and smiling into his phone. Beside him, the thug Cao Wenhua stood like a gate guardian, picking his teeth lazily.
Out of the corner of his eye, Cao Wenhua noticed a figure rushing across the road at astonishing speed, heading straight toward them.
He frowned and was about to shout when the figure was already in front of him.
The trainee in uniform?
What was he trying to do?
The thought had barely formed when Li Fan moved.
Without a word, his movements were lightning-fast and precise.
A fierce side kick landed squarely on the outside of Cao Wenhua’s knee.
Crack!
A sickening snap rang out. Cao Wenhua’s 80-kilogram body instantly lost balance. He let out an inhuman scream and dropped to his knees, clutching his leg.
Beside him, the fat manager Xiao Chengji was so startled that his phone fell to the ground. His plump body trembled like a sieve. He opened his mouth to scream.
Li Fan’s hand had already come down in a swift chop to the back of his neck.
“Ugh…”
Xiao Chengji didn’t even manage to cry out. His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed limply like a sack of mud.
The entire process happened in a flash.
From Li Fan’s charge to both men hitting the ground, less than three seconds had passed.
Across the street, Shan Xingteng’s mouth was wide enough to fit an egg. His hand was still frozen mid-gesture. He was completely petrified.
What… what had he just seen?
That trainee who had been humbly asking for advice had just knocked down two grown men in an instant?
That clean, ruthless technique was even sharper than the elite officers from the Municipal Criminal Investigation Division.
“Li Fan! Are you insane?! What the hell are you doing?!” Shan Xingteng finally snapped out of it. His face turned pale as he stumbled across the road, his voice shaking.
This was a disaster.
Assaulting civilians in broad daylight, and at a place like Yushui Club with complicated connections. They might not make it out of this street today.
His shout and Cao Wenhua’s scream alerted people inside the club.
With a crash, five or six men in black suits rushed out of the grand golden doors, each looking fierce.
They saw their manager on the ground and their colleague howling in pain. Then they saw Li Fan in uniform and Shan Xingteng looking ashen. Instantly, they exploded.
“Damn it! The cops are beating people!”
“Everyone look! The police are assaulting civilians in broad daylight! Is there no law anymore?!”
They shouted while surrounding Li Fan and Shan Xingteng, forming a loose circle, their expressions hostile.
Passersby were drawn to the commotion and gathered around, pointing and whispering.
Shan Xingteng felt his legs shaking. He grabbed Li Fan’s arm and hissed, “Are you crazy?! Say something! Give an explanation! Otherwise we’re finished today!”
His head was spinning. He wanted nothing more than to smash his head against a wall.
He had just told Li Fan not to act impulsively, and now this rookie had detonated a bomb.
On the ground, Cao Wenhua, writhing in pain, recovered slightly and wailed while clutching his deformed knee. “The police are beating people! We didn’t do anything! He just ran over and attacked me! My leg… my leg is broken! Ah…”
Xiao Chengji slowly regained consciousness, rubbing the back of his neck and crying out dramatically. “We’re innocent, Officer! We’re legitimate businessmen! On what grounds are you beating people?!”
Facing the chaotic scene, sweat poured down Shan Xingteng’s back. He was already thinking about how to write his self-criticism report.
Yet Li Fan’s face showed no trace of panic.
He coldly scanned the men surrounding him, then glanced at the two wailing on the ground. A faint, icy smile curved at the corner of his mouth.
“Innocent?”
He suddenly raised his hand.
Slap! Slap!
Two crisp, loud slaps landed squarely on Cao Wenhua and Xiao Chengji’s faces.
They were stunned into silence. Their wails stopped abruptly as two bright red handprints bloomed on their cheeks.
Everyone was shocked by Li Fan’s move.
This guy… was way too arrogant.
Not only had he beaten them, he had added two more slaps in front of everyone.
“Police conducting official business!”
Li Fan’s voice wasn’t loud, but it carried undeniable authority, instantly suppressing the noise.
He pulled out his police ID from his pocket and displayed it. His gaze was sharp as a blade as it swept across the men surrounding him.
“Everyone, hands on your heads and squat down. Otherwise, you’ll be charged with obstructing official duties.”
The men hesitated under his imposing aura.
One bald man with a scorpion tattoo on his neck stepped forward, emboldened by numbers, and shouted fiercely though lacking confidence. “Official business? What case? What evidence do you have that we broke the law? I think you’re abusing your power!”
“Yeah! Show us the evidence!”
“Or we’ll report you to the Municipal Bureau!”
Li Fan let out a cold laugh. He had no interest in arguing.
“Evidence?”
His body flashed forward again.
In the horrified gazes of the crowd, Li Fan charged into the group like a tiger among sheep, fists and legs flying.
Thud! Bang! Ah!
Within less than ten seconds, the five or six men who had been shouting just moments ago were sprawled across the ground, bruised and battered, clutching their arms or stomachs, groaning in pain, unable to get up.
The entire street fell into dead silence.
The onlookers stood frozen, mouths open but unable to utter a word.
Shan Xingteng was completely dumbfounded, his mind blank.
Was that… even human combat power?
Was he filming a movie?
After the shock came deeper confusion and worry.
He looked at Li Fan, who seemed like a god of war descended from the heavens, and swallowed hard. “Li Fan… what… what is going on?”
Li Fan dusted off his hands as if he had merely done something trivial.
He walked over to Shan Xingteng and spoke calmly. “Brother Teng, don’t panic.”
Then he crouched down and searched the bald man who had spoken earlier.
Soon, he pulled out a black telescopic baton from the man’s waistband.
He moved to another person and extracted a gleaming dagger from his pant leg.
Then a third, a fourth…
One, two, three…
In the blink of an eye, several shiny prohibited blades and batons had been seized and tossed onto the ground, clanging loudly.
Li Fan stood up, pointed at the weapons on the ground, then at the so-called club staff writhing in pain. He turned to the completely stunned Shan Xingteng.
“Brother Teng, I suspect that this ‘Yushui Club’ is not a legitimate bath center at all, but a criminal stronghold involved in organized crime. These people aren’t security staff. They’re thugs for a criminal organization.”
Shan Xingteng’s eyes locked onto the prohibited weapons on the ground. His breathing quickened instantly.
He might not understand everything else, but as a police officer, he knew exactly what these items meant.
Illegal possession of controlled weapons.
That charge was far more serious than a street brawl.
Was Li Fan telling the truth?
Was this glamorous-looking club really a den of criminals?
An indescribable surge of excitement and blood-boiling adrenaline shot from the soles of Shan Xingteng’s feet straight to the top of his head.
