Miss Lu Turned Her Back, Her Six Brothers Begged for Forgiveness - Chapter 42:
Chapter 42: Lu Ning’s Words Are This Sharp?
Lu Ning walked ahead, but Lu Nanfeng quickly caught up. “Ningning, I went back and investigated. It was indeed the butler’s negligence, so he’s here to apologize.”
After Lu Nanfeng finished speaking, the butler stepped forward, “Young Miss, it was my old eyes failing me. I didn’t notice the faulty stationery. It’s all my fault. Please don’t blame Second Young Master.”
Qin Xiang also came out, “Ningning, the butler is old. It’s inevitable he’d make a mistake. Just let it go.”
Lu Ning stood there, her expression distant and cold.
Did they really think they could hurt others and then solve everything with an apology?
“How funny. His old eyes failed him, yet only Xiao Ning’s stationery had problems and yours didn’t?”
A car stopped at the roadside. Gu Zifeng got out and immediately started mocking.
Ji Chiqian rolled down the window, his gaze deep as he looked at Lu Ning, “Get in the car.”
Lu Ning turned and walked toward the car without hesitation.
Lu Nanfeng quickly stepped forward, “Wait, Ningning, we’ve figured everything out. Can’t you come home?”
Lu Ning shook off Lu Nanfeng’s hand, “No.”
“Ningning, what will it take for you to forgive us?”
Ji Chiqian got out of the car with a cold face and pushed Lu Nanfeng away, “Do you need a mirror to see how selfish you look?”
“I’m selfish? I’m worried about her!”
“If you really cared about her, you wouldn’t force her to accept your so-called apology before the exams even ended. You think she’s being petty and ungrateful for not accepting it. Right now, her mood is the most important thing. But you only want to clear your name about the stationery, forcing her to accept an apology without considering how it might affect her exams. If that’s not selfish, what is?”
Ji Chiqian finished in one breath, his words sharp.
Lu Nanfeng was speechless. That wasn’t what he meant.
“I just didn’t want Lu Ning to misunderstand, so I rushed to explain.”
Ji Chiqian sneered, “But did you think about whether it’s appropriate for her to hear your explanation now? What if it affects her exam performance? Is an apology so noble? Once you apologize, there’s no more responsibility?”
Lu Nanfeng couldn’t say a word.
Qin Xiang gritted her teeth, “Second Brother is just worried. He cares about Ningning the most. How could he hurt her?”
Gu Zifeng sneered, “And this must be the adopted younger sister. Acting like a goody two-shoes? Lining up to apologize to look righteous? If that works, why don’t I stab you all and apologize later? This kind of selfish care — Xiao Ning doesn’t need it. Let’s go.”
Lu Ning bent down and got into the car.
Lu Nanfeng couldn’t help but step forward, “Ningning, I really didn’t mean to be late. I was just anxious.”
He was afraid of losing Lu Ning!
Lu Ning looked out the window at Lu Nanfeng, her tone calm, “I know. I’ll go back after the exams.”
Lu Nanfeng’s mind was a mess.
Why, when Lu Ning said she understood, did he feel even more uneasy?
He was getting less and less able to understand what Lu Ning was thinking.
Lu Nanfeng nodded, “Alright. I was inconsiderate. I’ll wait until you finish the exams and explain everything then.”
He stepped back a few paces. Even though he was unwilling, he didn’t dare block her anymore.
That man, Ji Chiqian, was not someone ordinary. If he forced it, he wouldn’t stand a chance. More importantly, it might affect Lu Ning’s exam mood. That was what mattered most.
He was stepping back for Lu Ning’s sake — not because he was afraid of Ji Chiqian!
Qin Xiang watched Lu Ning leave and clenched her teeth. She had really gotten away!
Annoyed, she said, “Second Brother, if Ningning doesn’t come home during the exams and Eldest Brother finds out, it’ll be bad.”
“Enough.”
Lu Nanfeng’s face was cold, “As long as you don’t tell and I don’t tell, Eldest Brother won’t know.”
Qin Xiang’s expression turned awkward, “Of course.”
Damn it, without Lu Ning at home, it would be much harder to scheme.
…
Lu Ning returned to the apartment.
Gu Zifeng grumbled, “What kind of people are they? Forcing you to accept an apology now?”
At first, Gu Zifeng thought the Lu brothers were just biased. But today, he realized it wasn’t bias — it was pure blindness!
Lu Ning handed Gu Zifeng a glass of water, “Don’t be mad. I’m not even mad.”
“How can you not be mad?”
“I’m used to it. It’s always been like this.”
Lu Ning’s expression was calm as she spoke.
Gu Zifeng clutched his chest, “Damn, I can’t stand it. I need a cigarette on the balcony to calm down.”
Ji Chiqian walked out carrying a fruit platter, his long fingers distinct and clean. He placed the fruit platter in front of her, “Eat more vitamins. It’ll help your brain.”
Lu Ning blinked, “Why are you scolding me?”
“After the exams, you’re planning to go back?”
Ah, so he heard that part.
Lu Ning picked up the fruit platter, “I’m just going back to pack my things.”
Ji Chiqian sat on the sofa, “Don’t be stupid.”
“I know. I definitely won’t soften or forgive them.”
Lu Ning’s eyes were full of determination.
…
The following exams went smoothly.
After finishing the final subject, Lu Ning felt much more relaxed.
She had endured for so long, and it was finally over!
Feeling good, she walked out of the classroom, passing many classmates discussing the exam. Qin Xiang was among them.
The class monitor looked at Lu Ning, “How did it go? I heard your language exam might be affected because of the stationery, but as long as the content’s fine, you won’t lose points.”
Qin Xiang immediately put on a concerned face, “Ningning, even if you didn’t do well, it’s okay.”
Lu Ning glanced at her lazily, “Still better than you.”
Qin Xiang’s expression stiffened, “Ningning, don’t be mad.”
“Being mad is still better than your results.”
Lu Ning’s words stabbed right into the heart.
The class monitor stared at Lu Ning in shock. Normally, Lu Ning was quite meek. Though she toughened up recently, she rarely spoke like this.
It seemed Lu Ning had become much sharper after the exams.
Lu Ning turned and walked away casually, her figure looking especially relaxed in the crowd.
Qin Xiang’s face turned ugly.
What was wrong with Lu Ning?
She put on a pitiful look and said to the class monitor, “I was just trying to care for her.”
The class monitor didn’t hold back, “You know whether you’re caring or trying to embarrass her.”
“Exactly. Do you really think we can’t see through your white lotus act? Only Lu Ning was dumb enough to be bullied by you for so many years.”
Qin Xiang’s eyes reddened, but the class monitor and others walked away, ignoring her.
She stood alone, her gaze turning dark.
Still, she quickened her steps to catch up — Lu Nanfeng would definitely come.
…
Lu Ning had just walked out the school gate and saw a row of red sports cars, each with a banner: [Wishing Student Xiao Ning a Bright Future and Victory!]
This was a bit excessive!
