Chapter 6: Roped in an Ally, Time to End the Female Lead and Male Supporting Character (1)

Qin Chuan rushed to Shen Qingyuan’s cave, only to see the formation around it light up—she was clearly in seclusion.

“Master, I’m heading to participate in the inner sect competition. I’ll definitely bring back a first-place title and not let you down.” Qin Chuan shouted outside her cave, not expecting a reply. After speaking, he turned to leave.

“Rank doesn’t matter. Don’t push yourself. Just don’t get hurt.”

Shen Qingyuan’s gentle and calm voice came through. Qin Chuan’s heart instantly brightened. As expected, even while in seclusion, Master still cared about him the most.

“Mm! Master, I won’t get hurt. Wait for me to bring back first place for you.” Qin Chuan shouted again toward her cave entrance.

When there was no further response after a while, he understood she wouldn’t speak again and headed directly toward the arena for the inner sect martial contest.

Right after he left Supreme Profound Peak, Shen Qingyuan’s figure quietly appeared at the mountain base. She silently watched his departing figure, emotions surging in her heart, before finally finding a reason to convince herself.

“It’s Chuan’er’s first time participating in the inner sect competition. As his Master, I should go and keep watch. What if someone tries to bully him?”

“But I can’t reveal myself. That would put pressure on him.”

So Shen Qingyuan concealed her presence and followed him in silence.

With her late-stage Tribulation Crossing Realm cultivation, the highest in the Tranquil Void Sect, no one could detect her unless she revealed herself.

Qin Chuan didn’t realize she was following him. He had already completed registration, using the identity of an ordinary disciple.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to register as a personal disciple, which would allow him to skip the elimination rounds and enter the top 100 directly. The issue was that Supreme Profound Peak was just too special.

Only he and Shen Qingyuan resided there. Shen Qingyuan had taken him as her disciple on behalf of the previous Sect Master, making her the martial aunt of the current Sect Master.

As her disciple, Qin Chuan was on equal footing with the Sect Master. Giving him a personal disciple’s identity would be inappropriate. But since he was young and his cultivation not yet high, he couldn’t be made an elder either. His status was awkward at best.

After signing up, Qin Chuan strolled nearby to scout the area ahead of time. Soon, he’d be beating up the Sect Master’s disciples. Hmm… best to find someone with a powerful background to help with that.

Although Shen Qingyuan was his strongest backer, an invincible one at that, he didn’t want to trouble her. He needed someone else with backing to take the fall.

While he was looking for a target, someone approached on their own—a chubby youth struck up conversation, “Junior Brother, I see you looking around. Are you searching for someone?”

Qin Chuan noticed the robes on the youth were refined garments from Jinbao Pavilion. Each one cost a hefty sum of spirit stones. And the fact that he wasn’t wearing standard inner or outer sect robes meant he was a personal disciple.

Qin Chuan immediately beamed, warmly grabbing the youth’s hand. “Senior Brother, hello! I’m Qin Chuan. Just one look at you and I knew you were extraordinary—handsome and dignified, with an air of nobility. You must be a personal disciple of one of the peaks.”

The chubby youth was startled by his enthusiasm and gave an awkward chuckle. “I’m Jin Pang. I just got lucky and became a personal disciple. I really don’t deserve such praise.”

Surname Jin… Qin Chuan instantly recalled that the alchemy grandmaster of Pill Peak was also surnamed Jin. And it was rumored that grandmaster had a beloved grandson. Qin Chuan’s eyes lit up, now looking at Jin Pang like a starving man eyeing a steamed bun.

“Senior Brother Jin is a personal disciple, so you must be entering directly into the top 100. I’m really envious of you.”

Jin Pang was a little uncomfortable under Qin Chuan’s fiery gaze and took a step back, swallowing hard, “I’m not joining the martial competition. I’m an alchemist, planning to enter the alchemy competition.”

“That’s a shame. I heard the Sect Master’s second disciple, that so-called alchemy genius, is also entering the martial competition. He might even win first place. With both talent in alchemy and strength in combat, he’s incredible, don’t you think, Senior Brother Jin?” Qin Chuan put on a look of admiration, as if he were truly in awe of Xie An.

He had read in the plot that Xie An would participate, not for victory, but to protect his precious little junior sister, Gu Xiran.

Jin Pang’s face darkened the moment he heard that. He scoffed, “Xie An? What genius? He’s just a bastard. I could crush him with one finger.”

Qin Chuan knew immediately he was right. The disciples of Pill Peak clearly didn’t get along with Xie An. All alchemists in the Tranquil Void Sect came from Pill Peak. With Xie An being hailed endlessly as a genius, and rumors spreading that he surpassed them all, how could Pill Peak’s disciples tolerate that?

And if Jin Pang really was the grandmaster’s grandson, likely the future heir of Pill Peak, then his rivalry with Xie An would be even deeper.

“Exactly, exactly. Senior Brother Jin is clearly far superior. That Xie An just rides on the Sect Master’s coattails. Everyone praises him out of obligation. He could never compare to you.” Qin Chuan quickly echoed, praising Jin Pang with flattery after flattery.

Once Jin Pang was visibly pleased, Qin Chuan let out a sigh and changed his tone, “It’s just… Xie An’s participating in the martial competition, and he’ll probably get more attention again. With his Core Formation Realm cultivation, even if he doesn’t take first, he’ll still place high.”

“Hmph. Whether he shines or not depends on whether I allow it.” Jin Pang gave Qin Chuan a meaningful glance. He wasn’t stupid—he knew exactly what Qin Chuan wanted.

But since he hated Xie An and Qin Chuan clearly did too, that made them allies.

Qin Chuan smiled back. He never thought Jin Pang was a fool. In that brief exchange of glances, they silently struck an agreement: deal with Xie An first.

Jin Pang went off to register while Qin Chuan watched him leave. He knew Jin Pang was probably thinking of using him too. They’d see who outplayed whom.

Before long, Jin Pang returned and leaned in close to Qin Chuan, whispering, “You want to deal with Xie An too, right? Let’s be honest with each other, how about it?”

“I’ve always been honest with you, Senior Brother Jin. I have personal grievances with Xie An and want to trip him up during the competition.” Qin Chuan replied with a smile.

“Then here’s to a good partnership.” Jin Pang grinned even wider.

“A pleasure to work with you.” In just a short time, Qin Chuan and Jin Pang were already talking like brothers.

“Since we’re cooperating, I’ll share everything I know with you.” Jin Pang began to transmit information secretly and asked, “Qin Chuan, did you know the first round of this inner sect competition has a new format?”

Qin Chuan nodded, “I heard a little in advance. The first round takes place in one of the Sect’s Secret Realms.”

“Correct. It’s the newly discovered Secret Realm. All Nascent Soul level demonic beasts inside have already been slain. The new rule is that the top 100 disciples ranked by demonic beast kills will move on to the top 100 matches.”

“My plan is that we injure Xie An before the hunt begins. That way, he won’t be able to kill any beasts and will be eliminated in the first round. What do you think?” Though Jin Pang phrased it as a question, his tone made it clear it was a decision.

“I’ll follow your lead, Senior Brother Jin.” Qin Chuan had caught the flash of killing intent when Jin Pang mentioned injuring Xie An. He now confirmed—Jin Pang wanted to kill him.

“Come here, let me tell you more of the details.” Jin Pang pulled Qin Chuan aside and began whispering in low tones.

Shen Qingyuan silently watched it all from above. She said nothing. She believed Qin Chuan wouldn’t kill the innocent. If he wanted to kill Xie An, then Xie An deserved to die.

And as for whether Qin Chuan could kill him or not—that didn’t matter.

If he couldn’t, well, wasn’t she still his Master?

She had no qualms about killing Core Formation Realm cultivators. In her eyes, everyone was just an ant. Whether it was a big ant or a small one, there was no difference at all.
