Chapter 7: Thankfully, There Are Still Normal People in Female-Oriented Novels

“The time has come. Enter the Secret Realm immediately.” The one presiding over the first round of the Inner Sect Grand Competition was He Zong, the second elder of the Tranquil Void Sect and an expert in the 1st stage Body Integration Realm.

As soon as He Zong’s voice fell, all the disciples participating in the first round of the competition moved toward the entrance of the Secret Realm.

Qin Chuan and Jin Pang didn’t rush in. They stood quietly near the entrance, observing.

After most of the disciples had entered, the female lead Gu Xiran and her simp Xie An finally came into Qin Chuan’s view.

Not only Gu Xiran and Xie An—her Master, Senior Brother, and Third Senior Brother had all come too.

In female-oriented novels, the male supporting characters were never unattractive. They either had sword-shaped brows and starry eyes, or they were as warm and gentle as jade. Some were even so androgynous that their gender couldn’t be distinguished, dressed in fluttering white robes. In any case, they stood out in any crowd—more dazzling than a spotlight.

Qin Chuan recalled the moment he read the script and saw the long list of exaggerated compliments used to describe the protagonist and the male supporting characters. His eyes had gone wide. He’d never encountered so many flowery adjectives even while studying for exams.

As for the female lead Gu Xiran—while she was indeed good-looking, she wasn’t breathtaking. She was nowhere near the level of his Master Shen Qingyuan. He couldn’t help but feel that the female lead’s beauty was hardly worthy of her male lead and male supporting characters.

Before Qin Chuan could dwell on that thought, more people arrived. As expected, the villainess Gu Xiwan also showed up, along with her Master and Senior Brother.

Qin Chuan wasn’t far away, and cultivators naturally had heightened senses. Gu Xiran’s voice just happened to reach his ears.

“Master, Senior Brother, Third Senior Brother, don’t worry about me. I’m now at the mid stage Foundation Establishment Realm, and I’ve got Second Senior Brother protecting me. Nothing will happen.”

“Yes, yes, our Little Junior Sister is the best.” This was spoken by Gu Xiran’s Senior Brother Pei Xuan. He looked at her with a doting expression, then turned and warned Xie An seriously, “Second Junior Brother, I’m entrusting Little Junior Sister to you. You must protect her well. If anything happens to her, even slightly, I’ll deal with you myself.”

“Exactly, Second Senior Brother, you must protect her. If it weren’t for Senior Brother being a direct disciple in the Core Formation Realm and heading straight to the top hundred competition, and if I weren’t tied up with other important matters, this wouldn’t be your responsibility,” said Gu Xiran’s Third Senior Brother Jiang Lin, also gazing at her dotingly.

“Xie An, you must protect Xiran. Otherwise, I won’t forgive you lightly,” added Gu Xiran’s Master, Yun Yao.

“Master, don’t worry. I will protect Little Junior Sister with everything I have. Even if I die, I won’t let her get hurt in the slightest,” Xie An vowed earnestly.

“Master, Senior Brother, Third Senior Brother, I’ll be fine,” Gu Xiran said, deeply moved.

The four of them then began exchanging such nauseatingly sweet words that Qin Chuan couldn’t take it anymore. He took a step back. Jin Pang did the same.

Qin Chuan looked at the disgusted Jin Pang, and Jin Pang looked back. They both instantly understood the mutual disdain they shared toward those four. It was truly sickening.

Every disciple entering the Secret Realm had a teleportation token. If danger arose, they could crush the token to be transported out. As long as one didn’t seek death, there was hardly any real danger.

Qin Chuan only learned about this after registering for the competition. But even so, it wouldn’t stop him from killing Xie An in the Secret Realm.

These tokens worked as low-level teleportation formations. Qin Chuan was skilled in formation arts, so setting up a temporary array that blocked such low-level teleportation wouldn’t be a problem.

“Senior Brother Jin, why don’t we head in first?” Qin Chuan suggested. He really didn’t want to keep watching Gu Xiran being pampered by that group of simps.

It was too nauseating.

“Sure. Junior Brother Qin, keep your locator ready. We’ll regroup immediately and proceed with the next part of the plan.” Jin Pang couldn’t stand Gu Xiran’s group either. It was just an Inner Sect Grand Competition, yet they acted like it was a life-or-death parting. They were clearly insane.

To ensure fairness and prevent familiar disciples from teaming up, the Tranquil Void Sect had set up a random teleportation mechanism.

The moment someone entered the Secret Realm tunnel, they would be sent to a random location. The locator was used to reunite afterward.

“See you inside, then.” Qin Chuan stepped into the Secret Realm. As he passed by Gu Xiran and her group, Gu Xiran was already arguing with Gu Xiwan.

It was the kind of verbal spat where each line was longer and more annoying than the last.

This was the Cultivation world—what were they doing engaging in verbal fights like some palace drama? Qin Chuan thought that if anyone dared provoke him without reason, he’d cut them down with a single sword strike. In the Cultivation world, the one with the bigger fist had the final say.

The Masters of both Gu Xiran and Gu Xiwan stood to the side trying to look impressive. Qin Chuan found it ridiculous. Couldn’t they just stab each other a couple of times and be done with it? That would kill off two male supporting characters and save everyone trouble. He could even do a good deed by scattering their ashes afterward.

As the quarrel between Gu Xiran and Gu Xiwan grew louder, Qin Chuan quickened his pace and stepped into the tunnel. Just before entering, he turned back involuntarily.

He saw Elder He Zong, who was overseeing the competition, with a look of speechless disbelief. The other elders and Sect supervisors wore the same expression. Qin Chuan suddenly thought, “There are still some normal people in this female-oriented Cultivation world. Only the protagonist, female lead, male supporting cast, and villainess are out of their minds.”

“That’s good. At least not everyone’s been dumbed down. Otherwise, I’d get tired of all the chopping I’d have to do.”

After that single glance, Qin Chuan stopped looking back. He stepped into the passage and was immediately teleported into the Secret Realm. Jin Pang, unable to stand the madness either, followed closely behind.

Meanwhile, Gu Xiran and Gu Xiwan were still at it. Gu Xiwan’s green tea tactics were flawless, stirring up Gu Xiran’s former Master, Xuan Yang, into shouting at the current female lead, “Gu Xiran, I’m truly disappointed in you for acting like this. Apologize to Xiwan right now!”

At that moment, Gu Xiran’s current Master Yun Yao couldn’t hold back. He retorted immediately, “Elder Xuan Yang, Xiran is now my disciple. It’s not your place to scold her.”

“Sect Master, this isn’t about whose disciple she is. Gu Xiran was in the wrong. She should apologize,” Xuan Yang shot back.

As an elder of the Tranquil Void Sect and peak elder, he believed he was in the right for defending his favorite disciple and directly confronted Yun Yao.

“I did nothing wrong. It was all Gu Xiwan’s fault. I won’t apologize,” Gu Xiran said firmly, refusing to back down.

“Master, if Xiran doesn’t want to apologize, then… it’s fine. It’s all my fault…” The green tea white lotus Gu Xiwan finally spoke up.

The moment Gu Xiran saw her, she flew into a rage and shouted, “Gu Xiwan, don’t pretend to be kind. You disgust me.”

“Gu Xiran, you—!” Xuan Yang and his disciples were about to make a move on Gu Xiran, but Yun Yao and his disciples quickly stepped in front of her, ready for a fight. Tensions rose instantly.

At this point, an exasperated He Zong had no choice but to step in and mediate, “Sect Master, Elder Xuan Yang, is this really necessary? Your disciples’ competition is about to begin. The Secret Realm is closing soon. Just head in for now and resolve this calmly later.”

He Zong just wanted to brush things off.

As long as they didn’t start a fight now, it was fine.

Eventually, after more bickering, both sides called a temporary truce. Gu Xiran and Gu Xiwan entered the Secret Realm.

Qin Chuan couldn’t help but curse them in his heart. These people were truly brainless—arguing endlessly, only to stop just short of fighting, like they had nothing better to do after a full meal.

Unfortunately, he had no time to complain. He had been randomly teleported into a beast swarm.
