Chapter 28: The Descent

Early the next morning, deep within the Monster Beast Mountain Range, in front of the sealed Demonic Cavern.

A colossal magical beast statue towered into the sky, face twisted in rage, its raised right arm wrapped in massive stone chains several meters thick, as though it were defying the injustice of fate itself.

Around the statue, Shen Yunchu, Zhuang Jinghao, Xu Tianchuan, and Fu Hanqing each stood in a cardinal direction. Their gazes converged on the fluctuating pale blue seal at the base of the statue. Within it, beastly tides surged as if terrifying savage beasts were ready to burst forth at any moment.

After a long silence, Zhuang Jinghao said, “The beast tide threatens all lives under heaven. Time is of the essence. We should quickly channel our energy to reinforce the seal.”

Xu Tianchuan added, “Only half an hour remains until the sealing is complete. Everything depends on Sect Master Shen.”

Fu Hanqing smiled, “Sect Master Shen truly lives up to her boundless cultivation. With you leading the reinforcement of the seal, we trust you’ll hold nothing back for the sake of the world.”

Shen Yunchu said nothing, still staring at the sealed mouth of the cavern.

After a long while, she quietly murmured, “Back then, how did Lian’er seal such a terrifying beast tide on his own?”

Zhuang Jinghao replied, “Sect Master Shen, now isn’t the time to think about the past. Let’s focus on strengthening the seal—for the good of all.”

Shen Yunchu didn’t respond to him, only left one sentence.

“Transfer all of your Spiritual Energy to me.”

Then, she leapt into the sky. Her feet touched down lightly atop the statue’s head.

The three men had still been worrying about how to convince Shen Yunchu to take the lead, but seeing her take the central position atop the formation willingly, they were all secretly overjoyed.

“Then we’ll leave it to Sect Master Shen.”

The three gave a nod of respect before activating their Spiritual Energy, sending it upward toward the top of the statue.

Shen Yunchu’s expression remained cold and calm, like one with no desires. But in her heart, she was still deeply worried about Shen Lian’s safety.

“Shen Lian, when will you finally wake up? I’m not by your side… you mustn’t let anything happen to you.”

She recalled how, before leaving, she repeatedly told him not to leave the rear mountain, not to contact Ye Fan or the others again.

But Shen Lian, completely brainwashed by those seven white-eyed wolves, didn’t listen at all. Shen Yunchu had left for the Monster Beast Mountain Range in deep anxiety, and hadn’t stopped worrying about her troublesome disciple since.

“Forget it. Let me finish the seal quickly and then hurry back. I hope he’s safe.”

Casting aside her worries, Shen Yunchu drew deeply from the depths of her Dantian Sea and circulated her boundless energy.

In an instant, the mighty aura of an Immortal Realm expert radiated in all directions, forming a serene blue barrier around her.

Spiritual Energy from the other three continuously gathered into her barrier. Under Shen Yunchu’s control, it traveled along the massive stone chains that wrapped around the statue and flowed toward the mouth of the seal.

Suddenly, a sacred light rose around the statue, illuminating the seal.

The previously agitated aura within the seal began to calm under the glow of the converging power.

At that same moment, the magical beasts throughout the mountain range, sensing the seal was about to be reinforced, rushed toward the cavern in madness.

Outside the perimeter, 100,000 disciples held their ground. Forming battle arrays, they held the beasts at bay, buying precious time for the four core cultivators inside.

Pfft—

“Awoo—!”

With one slash of the Red Tide Sword, a 5th-grade magical beast let out a miserable cry and fell from the sky.

Standing midair, the cultivator named Chichao swept his gaze across the battlefield. As disciples clashed with beasts all around, a faint, unreadable smirk curled his lips.

Turning to glance at the sealed cavern, he muttered under his breath, “Sect Master… don’t blame me. This was all orchestrated by your seven disciples and the old ancestor. You merely lost your purity, but what you bring to Heavenly Feather Sect is endless glory. We will never forget your sacrifice.”

Just then—

Clatter-clatter—

A thundering gallop tore through the air, approaching at lightning speed.

“A speed-type magical beast? It’s fast…”

Chichao glanced over, raised his Heaven-grade Phoenix Soar Sword, and didn’t take it seriously.

But in the next instant—

“Argh—!”

Dozens of Heavenly Feather Sect disciples were thrown into the air by a ghostly black carriage, vanishing in an instant.

“Hmm?”

As Chichao frowned, an explosive voice boomed from the carriage.

“Ants of Heavenly Feather Sect, only worthy of screaming beneath iron hooves! Hahahaha—!”

The laughter echoed through the heavens, shaking Chichao’s organs violently.

“Who dares to act so arrogant here? Take my sword first!”

With a roar, Chichao unleashed the full force of his 3rd stage Void Refining Realm cultivation.

His Phoenix Soar Sword transformed into a blue phoenix, charging toward the ghostly carriage.

“Oh? It’s you!”

Boom—

A startled voice responded, followed by an overwhelming gust of palm-force.

The sword-phoenix was obliterated in an instant, and the ensuing wind tore apart nearly a thousand nearby Heavenly Feather Sect disciples.

“What… who the hell are you…”

Chichao’s eyes widened in fear as he rapidly retreated over 100 steps.

“You don’t recognize me this fast? Just last month, didn’t you accuse me of stealing sect pills in front of the whole sect?”

Boom—

The soundwave hit before he could react, and he spat out blood on the spot.

Before he could recover, a flash of cold light burst from the carriage. A fearsome figure shot out like a thunderbolt, seizing Chichao by the throat.

“Ugh—”

Choking on his breath, Chichao found himself overpowered. But Shen Lian didn’t kill him immediately.

Instead, he dragged him back hundreds of steps and slammed him against a ten-thousand-year-old ancient tree.

“You… Shen… Lian…?”

Recognizing him, Chichao was utterly horrified.

“Surprised?”

Shen Lian raised his hand, lifting Chichao’s feet off the ground.

His arrogant eyes looked down on Chichao like he was a worthless dog.

“You… dare kill a fellow disciple? Aren’t you afraid… afraid…”

“Fellow disciple? Hahaha, you trash think you’re worthy of being called that?”

As Shen Lian’s words entered his ears, Chichao felt his Dantian Sea boil, his meridians twist in agony. Blood gushed from his orifices.

“Tell me—why did you plot against Shen Yunchu? You get one chance to live.”

“Shen Lian… if you know what’s good for you… you’ll let me go. Or else…”

“Looks like my words mean nothing to you.”

As Shen Lian finished, a sharp pop sounded.

Chichao’s left arm exploded.

“Aaagh—!”

His pained scream echoed through the forest.

But then, his left leg blew apart too.

“Go on, scream. I don’t mind turning you into a human pig, then letting low-grade magical beasts gnaw at you. A 3rd stage Void Refining Realm cultivator… devoured alive by beasts barely 1st or 2nd-grade… it’ll be a tale this entire continent remembers.”

Chichao’s face turned pale. Trembling, he said, “Junior Brother Shen… what happened to you?”

Bang—

Before he finished, his right arm exploded as well.

Face twisted in pain, Chichao heard Shen Lian’s voice full of disgust in his ears.

“Junior Brother? Did I not make it clear? You trash think you’re worthy of calling me that?”

“Every day I spent among you people made me sick—so sick I wanted to cut every one of you open. The moment you all decided to harm me… you should have known this day would come.”

“I’ll ask one last time—who ordered you to attack Shen Yunchu? No more evasions. My patience is gone.”
