“Friend Bai, “we’re here to celebrate with Gu Feng, so why hasn’t he come out yet?” Ouyang Yuxiong called out, sensing something amiss in the atmosphere.

The other guests present for the celebration had also begun to feel uneasy.

“You will see my Senior Brother soon enough,” Bai Yuxiao replied, a sly smile appearing on his face. He lifted his hand, and a dark pattern appeared at the corner of his eye, spreading over his body. Black mist rose from the depths beneath the Zhengyuan Sect’s main hall, creeping upward as dark lines formed a massive array on the floor.

Someone in the crowd recognized the pattern and shouted in horror, “It’s the Blood Refining Life Extension Array!”

“Gu Feng isn’t awake at all!”

“The Zhengyuan Sect is planning to sacrifice us as offerings! Bai Yuxiao, you’re insane!”

“He’s fallen into the demonic path!” Ling Xue, who had lived for over a thousand years, immediately recognized the dark transformation in Bai Yuxiao. She drew her sword and charged toward him with a sharp, slicing attack, sending a cutting wind that narrowly missed Bai Yuxiao’s face.

His face shattered, dissolving into a shadowy image. It was fake!

Ling Xue focused her senses, scanning her surroundings, only for Bai Yuxiao to suddenly appear on the platform in the main hall.

“He’s activating the array!” Ye Fan shouted, his eyes locked on Bai Yuxiao, who was slicing open his wrist, aiming to press his bleeding hand against the platform’s center.

“That must be the array’s core—kill him!” Countless cultivators raised their swords, but Bai Yuxiao had no intention of surviving this himself. He had included himself in the sacrificial ritual.

The disciples outside the main hall witnessed the horrific scene within and lowered their heads in silent compliance. The array was active, trapping everyone inside.

When Bai Yuxiao’s blood hit the platform, a golden light slowly arose, revealing the figure of a young man lying on the platform. His black hair cascaded around him, glossy and smooth. His face was pale, his eyes shut. Ling Xue recognized him in an instant—it was Gu Feng.

A sudden hum of deafening sound vibrated through the array, assaulting everyone’s minds. Those with insufficient strength clutched their heads, blood streaming from their ears, eyes, and noses. Bodies dropped to the ground, each drop of their blood seeping into the array’s pattern.

Only a few, all at Golden Core Realm or above, managed to remain standing, though even Ye Fan was doubled over in pain, clutching his head.

“Bai Yuxiao, you’re mad! If you bring Gu Feng back like this, he’ll be utterly consumed by the demonic path, forever barred from ascension!” Ling Xue’s calm composure had vanished, and she rushed toward Gu Feng’s body on the platform, desperate to rescue him. But her hand was stopped by a barrier surrounding him.

Bai Yuxiao sat nearby, coldly watching her. “Even if my Senior Brother becomes a demon, he’ll be the strongest demon there is!” he declared.

The piercing sound assaulted him as well, shaking his internal organs and causing blood to seep from his eyes. His trembling hand pressed against the barrier, leaving a bloody handprint that was soon absorbed by the glowing shield.

“So long as I can restore his life force, he will awaken.”

“And who told you this?” Ling Xue demanded, grabbing Bai Yuxiao by the collar. “You’re forcing him back into the demonic path!”

Killing Bai Yuxiao now would only accelerate the array’s function.

“Why, that would be me!” A sweet, mocking voice whispered in Ling Xue’s ear, and a smoky, ethereal figure materialized.

“Ye Xiaoyi!” Ling Xue released Bai Yuxiao and glared at the newcomer. “You’re still alive!”

“How could I die? I’m a demoness, after all.” Ye Xiaoyi twirled a strand of hair around her finger, slinking up next to Bai Yuxiao like a serpent. “What’s so wrong with the demonic path?” she purred. “Look, Bai Yuxiao, your Senior Brother’s face seems a bit less pale.”

Her eyes gleamed with sly amusement as she gazed at Gu Feng, still lying on the platform, a prize she longed to claim. Bai Yuxiao had been a fool, easily manipulated.

“Zhengyuan Sect has allied with demons!” Ye Fan managed to choke out, his sword shaking as he pointed it at Bai Yuxiao.

“No need to be so harsh!” Ye Xiaoyi released Bai Yuxiao, letting him fall to the ground, weakened. “This is just a mutual benefit. Gu Feng’s life force is nearly gone. Using a few worthless lives to revive him isn’t so bad, is it?” She stood beside the barrier, gazing longingly at Gu Feng. She had dreamt of possessing him for ages.

“You don’t even have a clone left, do you?” Ling Xue sneered at Ye Xiaoyi. “Even if it kills me, you won’t walk away unscathed!”

She threw a talisman, which flared with icy blue light, freezing Ye Xiaoyi where she stood.

“Do you think such cheap tricks can kill me?” Ye Xiaoyi sneered, the ice around her cracking and shattering.

But a moment later, the color drained from her face as a thin wound opened on her ankle, trickling blood down onto the array.

“You tricked me!” She hissed.

“Finally, the real you,” Ling Xue smirked, her sword trembling with anticipation. “Now you can serve as part of the sacrifice, too!”

She drove her sword into Ye Xiaoyi’s abdomen, twisting it. Ye Xiaoyi’s hands clamped down on the blade, fury and disbelief in her eyes.

“Madwoman!”

Creeeeeak…

The golden barrier surrounding Gu Feng began to crack, piece by piece. Both women froze, looking up at the platform.

The young man’s black eyes opened. He raised a hand to his temple, a cold sneer on his lips.

“How incredibly… loud.”
