Chapter 23: Senior Sister, Don’t Be Like This…

“Who’s there!” Bai Shuyue suddenly opened her eyes, her gaze sharp as a blade. She looked directly toward the place where Li Changju was hiding.

“Hehe…” Li Changju gave an awkward laugh, rubbing the bridge of his nose as he stepped out from the shadows. “Senior Sister.”

Their eyes met—his filled with embarrassment, hers with shame and anger. The atmosphere instantly grew strange. Bai Shuyue’s face flushed red the moment he appeared, even her ears steaming as if white mist were rising from them. Panic flickered in her eyes as her lips opened and closed, but she couldn’t form an explanation.

Li Changju coughed lightly and said, “Thank you, Senior Sister, for tidying up my bedding…”

“It… it’s nothing!” Bai Shuyue exhaled in relief. At the same time, Li Changju also relaxed. For a moment he had truly feared she might silence him to protect her secret. Fortunately, his quick wit smoothed over the awkwardness.

Whether or not Bai Shuyue had some peculiar habit that made him witness what he just saw, Li Changju knew one thing—he couldn’t treat her the same way he did Xiao Hongyan. She cultivated the Emotionless Dao. What if one day she really chose to kill her man as proof of her Dao? Just thinking about it was terrifying. The best solution was to pretend nothing had happened, act as though he hadn’t seen or heard a thing. In the end, this was all because his strength wasn’t enough. If his strength suppressed hers, would he need to worry? He would simply crush everything!

After some silent grumbling, Li Changju calmed himself. Bai Shuyue, too, steadied her emotions, regaining her icy demeanor, though the blush on her face and ears lingered faintly. She fixed him with a cold gaze. “Junior Brother, about what just happened…”

Before she could finish, Li Changju quickly waved his hands. “Senior Sister, don’t misunderstand. I didn’t see anything, and I don’t remember anything.” He shifted his gaze to the window as if nothing had ever occurred.

But instead of relief, Bai Shuyue felt even more upset. He clearly saw it—why pretend otherwise? Was he just sparing her some dignity? Did he not like her at all? Or did he simply look down on her? A pang of pain struck her chest, and a sense of defeat surged within.

“Senior Sister came here regarding the matter of Demon Clan members sneaking into the sect, right?” Li Changju quickly changed the topic.

Bai Shuyue nodded. “Indeed, someone from the Demon Clan has infiltrated. I was worried about the safety of the disciples, so I came to investigate. Who would have thought I’d sense demonic energy lingering on your bedding…”

She wasn’t lying. She really had smelled it.

Li Changju’s heart skipped a beat. It was said Senior Sister’s nose was incredibly sharp—was it really that sharp? Did she actually detect Xue Fulan’s presence just now? So he misunderstood earlier? Luckily, he hadn’t acted rashly. But wait… if she smelled the bed, did that mean she suspected him?

“Senior Sister, I swear, I was just with Master. I know nothing about any Demon Clan members, and I’ve never harbored one!” Li Changju explained in a rush, speaking so fast he feared she might sniff out something again.

Bai Shuyue stared at him in silence for a moment. Was he afraid his demonic cultivation would be exposed? Her thoughts raced, and suddenly, a bold idea flashed in her mind. She smiled gently. “Senior Sister understands. If I suspected anyone, it would never be you.”

Her alluring smile stunned Li Changju for several seconds. He forced a strained laugh, quickly averting his gaze to avoid losing control. “As long as Senior Sister understands.”

“But…” Bai Shuyue paused, her eyes lingering on him. A deep sense of loss filled her heart. She had thought Li Changju might harbor feelings for her, but clearly, she had been mistaken. She wanted to cut off this foolishness… but lately, she had been unable to control herself. The more she tried to stop thinking of him, the more consumed she became. Afraid she would fall deeper, she clenched her teeth and forced herself forward.

“But what?” Li Changju asked, sensing her hesitation.

Bai Shuyue bit down, pushing herself over the edge. She looked at him with a faint, mocking smile. “But… Junior Brother wouldn’t want others to discover your demonic cultivation, would you?”

Her eyes shone with determination. In the Memory Stone, wasn’t this the same way Second Senior Sister coerced him?

Li Changju froze. Wait, why did that sound so familiar? Could it be… Senior Sister also transmigrated from the Sakura Nation?

“Junior Brother, aren’t my legs your favorite?” Bai Shuyue lifted one slender leg, smooth and pale like warm jade. “Look at them… aren’t they fair?”

Li Changju’s throat tightened as he swallowed hard, his gaze darting away. “S… Senior Sister, don’t be like this…”

“Do you like them or not?” Bai Shuyue pressed, her body leaning closer. Their breaths mingled, the faint distance between them shrinking, tugging at the fragile defenses in his heart.

“Se… Senior Sister…” His stammering reply carried no deterrence, only a shade of ambiguity.

Bai Shuyue’s lips curved into a faint smile. In a low voice she asked, “So Junior Brother is agreeing, then?”

Li Changju’s mind went blank. Before he could react, her crimson lips pressed against his, soft and sweet as spring breeze. She kissed him gently, leaving him stiff and frozen in place, his thoughts shattering into chaos.

…

“Now my innocence is proven, isn’t it?” In the Phoenix Perch Palace, Xiao Hongyan said proudly.

Several law enforcement disciples exchanged glances and nodded. One spoke solemnly, “Senior Sister, news just arrived that the demon woman appeared on Middle Peak. Not only is the suspicion on Phoenix Perch Palace cleared, but Jade Peak as a whole is no longer under suspicion.”

“You mean Jade Peak’s lockdown will be lifted, and the law enforcement team won’t be searching here anymore?” Xiao Hongyan’s voice rose with hope.

“Exactly. There’s no need to seal the mountain. Senior Sister can move freely within Jade Peak, though for your safety, it’s best you don’t leave it.”

“I understand,” Xiao Hongyan nodded.

“We’ll take our leave!” The law enforcement disciples bowed, then soared away on their swords.

Excitement bubbled in Xiao Hongyan’s chest, nearly making her jump. This meant she could finally see her little Juju again.

“I wonder what he’s doing now… Is he thinking of me?” She pouted, then smiled slyly. “Hmph! Since he came to see me tonight, I’ll be merciful and personally spoil him once!”

Her mood soaring, she tapped her foot lightly and flew away into the distance.
