Chapter 10: Yu Jiu Was Scammed

“Alright, take the contract back to the company and transfer the money. Then ask Brother Nan to send in some excavators and put up perimeter boards around the site,” Zheng Chuan said. “We’ll announce publicly that a 300 million yuan tourism development project is about to begin.”

“Brother Chuan, what kind of performance is this now?” Xiao Hui asked, confused.

“You idiot. If someone wants to buy the land, and we don’t make it look like we’ve invested heavily, how can we raise the price?” Zheng Chuan replied.

Xiao Hui was a decent guy—mild-tempered, but very meticulous. With some training, he would be useful for the company in the future.

“I see now. Brother Chuan, I admire you,” Xiao Hui said, suddenly enlightened. His admiration for Zheng Chuan was absolute.

Just as they returned to the city, Yu Jiu called.

Ever since Zheng Chuan tricked him with the story about being a leader’s nephew, Yu Jiu had become more and more respectful toward him.

“Young Master Zheng, the second round of loans was released today. The company account is already empty,” Yu Jiu said hesitantly. “I’m afraid I can’t handle more clients for now.”

“No worries, Boss Yu. There’s no rush with the remaining clients. Don’t worry, I’ve kept them reserved for you,” Zheng Chuan said. “My uncle said that once he’s done with his current work, he’ll have dinner with you.”

Zheng Chuan knew exactly why this guy was calling—he just wanted to get close to Secretary Zheng.

So, he told him exactly what he wanted to hear.

Sure enough, Yu Jiu was overjoyed. “That’s wonderful, Young Master Zheng! Tonight, I’ll host a dinner in your honor. Please, you must come.”

“Tonight? That won’t work. I’m meeting with a few local group presidents. Let’s reschedule. I’ll treat you next time,” Zheng Chuan said with a laugh, turning down the invitation.

No way he’d meet with him. Yu Jiu was a ruthless figure—way more dangerous than Shen Nan.

He’d just scammed this guy out of a fortune. If he slipped up during a face-to-face, he might get hacked to death on the spot.

“Alright then, let’s settle it like that,” Yu Jiu said, laughing before hanging up.

Chen Tao was also in the office. Seeing Yu Jiu hang up, he stepped forward and asked, “Brother-in-law, what did he say?”

“The leader is very busy and hard to schedule, but Zheng Chuan agreed to have dinner—just needs a few more days,” Yu Jiu said. “Go to my friend’s bank and pull out some more funds.”

“Alright, I’ll go in a bit.” Chen Tao hesitated, then said, “But, Brother-in-law, something doesn’t feel right to me.”

“What feels off?” Yu Jiu asked.

“It’s too smooth,” Chen Tao, who usually wasn’t that sharp, actually showed a bit of clarity. “You always say pies don’t fall from the sky.”

“But then Zheng Chuan suddenly showed up, brought in all these clients, and even offered to introduce us to a government official—if that’s not a pie from the sky, I don’t know what is.”

His words made Yu Jiu pause and finally clear his head a bit.

Yeah, this was going way too smoothly.

He thought for a moment, then made a phone call. “Director Xu, I wanted to ask you something.”

“Does Secretary Zheng have a nephew? I heard someone say he arrived in Tianhai recently.”

“Nephew? What nephew? Secretary Zheng only has one son, and he’s studying abroad. Never heard of any nephew,” Director Xu said.

“R-Really?” Yu Jiu’s heart dropped. “Director Xu, you’re sure? The guy’s name is Zheng Chuan. He’s not a relative?”

“I’m one of Secretary Zheng’s closest colleagues. He told me himself when he took office. If he had a nephew, wouldn’t I know? There are too many scammers these days—you need to be careful. I’m hanging up.”

Click—the line went dead.

Yu Jiu froze in place.

Damn it… I got scammed.

“Brother-in-law, what’s wrong?” Chen Tao was shocked too.

“I just asked Director Xu—Secretary Zheng has no nephew. That guy, Zheng Chuan, is a fraud,” Yu Jiu roared, slamming his fist on the desk.

“He dares scam me?! That kid has some serious guts!”

“I’ll gather the brothers now and hunt him down. I’ll tear him limb from limb!” Chen Tao panicked. Over the past few days, Fuguixin Credit had loaned out more than 30 million yuan.

Their account was nearly drained, and all the gang’s liquid funds had been pumped into this.

And now they find out it was all a scam?

“Calm down. Don’t act rashly just yet,” Yu Jiu’s eyes turned cold and sharp.

He picked up his phone and called Zheng Chuan. “Young Master Zheng, I’m terribly sorry. The group suddenly needs to make a large investment and we need a lot of capital.”

“My account funds are all tied up in loans. Could we…”

“Boss Yu, we’ve already got enough people to start the repayments. Don’t worry. I’ll have some of them begin repaying tomorrow—with interest doubled,” Zheng Chuan said casually.

“Alright, thank you, Young Master Zheng. Once we turn things around, I’ll transfer the rest immediately,” Yu Jiu said through gritted teeth.

He—once the godfather of North Tianhai, someone whose very name once made the city tremble—was now being forced to lower his voice and grovel to a punk.

He was furious.

He swore that the moment he recovered even a fraction of the money, he would find Zheng Chuan and rip him apart.

“Good, good. Boss Yu, I’ll make sure at least 10 million is repaid by tomorrow.”

Zheng Chuan sounded so confident that Yu Jiu believed it a little and eased up a bit.

After hanging up, Zheng Chuan turned to Shen Nan. “Brother Nan, Yu Jiu is catching on.”

“That fast? He’s smarter than I thought,” Shen Nan chuckled. “But it’s fine. This round should’ve hurt him badly enough.”

He turned and said, “Qing She, bring a few guys and make sure to protect Xiao Chuan. Yu Jiu will definitely go crazy when he’s desperate.”

“Yes, Brother Nan,” Qing She nodded.

After staying at Zunjue Club for a day, Zheng Chuan left with Qing She.

“Want one?” Qing She offered him a cigarette.

“Brother She, you have something to say?” Zheng Chuan took the cigarette, but didn’t light it—instead, he tucked it behind his ear.

Qing She lit his own and blew out a cloud of smoke. “Zheng Chuan, I don’t know what your true intentions are, but let me warn you—Brother Nan is my lifesaver.”

“If you ever try anything that hurts him, I’ll kill you.”

“Brother She, I wouldn’t dare,” Zheng Chuan replied with a bitter smile.

Clearly, he’d drawn too much attention at the company. He was starting to stand out like a sore thumb.

Qing She was warning him.

Qing She was a cold-blooded man, bordering on antisocial. He was powerful too—always serving as the gang’s enforcer, even assassin.

But he was utterly loyal to Shen Nan.

In the previous life, when Shen Nan was ambushed by enemies, Qing She had protected him with his life.

Now that Zheng Chuan had been reborn, he had to guide him properly.

Teach him that when you bump into someone, you say sorry—not try to cripple them.

When you get into a conflict, you resolve it peacefully—not go hacking people up.
