“Then tell me, what’s your real purpose in getting close to Brother Nan?” Qing She stared coldly at Zheng Chuan.

His instincts told him Zheng Chuan had an ulterior motive, and today he had to get to the bottom of it.

If Zheng Chuan couldn’t give a good explanation, he’d probably cripple him right then and there.

“Brother She, I… I…” Just as Zheng Chuan was about to make up an excuse, he saw Shen Li walking over from a distance.

She waved at him, “Zheng Chuan!”

“Shen Li!” Zheng Chuan lit up and ran over, immediately hugging her.

Shen Li froze. What the hell was this bastard doing?

She admitted he had saved her, and she did have some feelings for him. But their relationship wasn’t at this stage yet—this was way too much. So annoying.

Ignoring Shen Li’s deadly glare, Zheng Chuan wrapped his arm around her waist and led her over to Qing She.

“Uh, Brother She, I’m going to eat with Li Li. No need for you to follow.”

Qing She’s expression shifted from confusion to shock, and finally, admiration.

So that’s it. This kid had been scheming all along just to be with the young lady?

Seeing Zheng Chuan’s arm still around her waist, she pinched him hard.

Zheng Chuan grimaced in pain, the muscles in his face twitching, but he still didn’t let go.

“It’s fine. You can come eat with us,” Shen Li shot Zheng Chuan a glare. “He’s paying.”

“Alright, I know a great Northeastern dumpling place. The food there is really authentic. Let’s go,” Qing She nodded.

He was a regular at that place. The dishes were authentic, and the portions generous.

The owner lady was in her forties and cooked exceptionally well. The girl at the cashier, probably her daughter, was very young and had a sweet smile.

Qing She still gave Zheng Chuan and Shen Li some private space, sitting alone outside.

“Zheng Chuan, you better give me a good explanation today, or we’re done,” Shen Li said angrily.

Zheng Chuan glanced at Qing She sitting by the door, gave a bitter smile, and clasped his hands together. “Miss Shen, please help me out.”

“If I hadn’t done that, Brother She wouldn’t have let me go.”

“If you’ve done nothing wrong, why would Brother She be after you?” Shen Li rolled her eyes.

“I really do want to contribute to the gang—I mean, to the company,” Zheng Chuan said. “But I was too eager to prove myself, and the senior members got suspicious.”

“No matter how I explained it, no one believed me. So I had to use you as a cover.”

“Really?” Shen Li looked at him doubtfully.

“Really. With you backing me up, no one would dare question me no matter how much effort I show, right?” Zheng Chuan said.

Then he grinned, “Li Li, you’re so beautiful and kind. Anyone who sees you would fall for you. I—”

“Shut up! Don’t say another word!” Shen Li’s face turned red all the way to her ears.

She had always despised sweet talk from men.

But why did it sound different coming from Zheng Chuan?

“Alright, alright, I won’t say anything more. Come on, eat,” Zheng Chuan quickly changed the subject and served her food.

Inside, he was grinning ear to ear. His wife was still just as shy as in the previous life.

Even though her father was the famous Shen Nan, she remained sweet and kind. Clearly, the old man had protected her well.

“Zheng Chuan, I think my dad likes you. He’s been mentioning you a lot at home these days,” Shen Li said, taking a bite of sweet and sour pork.

“Really? Then I need to perform even better,” Zheng Chuan was overjoyed.

After their meal, Qing She was nowhere to be seen.

They turned their heads and spotted him by a tree near the restaurant—hugging the young cashier girl.

“What?! Brother She…” Shen Li covered her mouth in shock.

“Tsk tsk… who would’ve thought? My Brother She’s actually the silent but passionate type,” Zheng Chuan was completely impressed.

You had to understand, Qing She had serious antisocial tendencies. Within the gang, he barely spoke to anyone except Shen Nan.

He wasn’t like the other guys who went around clubbing or picking up girls.

Just then, the restaurant owner stormed out in a rage. Qing She and the girl quickly separated.

“Mom, we…” the girl tried to explain, clearly panicking.

“Shameless! Disgraceful!” the owner was furious, shouting all sorts of insults.

Qing She didn’t argue. His face was terrifyingly cold. If it were anyone else yelling at him like that, he’d probably have snapped their neck.

But now, he held back. The scene looked just like a tragic love warrior standing strong for love.

“Hey, why are you yelling?” Zheng Chuan couldn’t hold back anymore. “My Brother She and your daughter are in a consensual relationship. A hug doesn’t warrant such nasty words.”

“Besides, what’s wrong with my Brother She? Whatever your conditions are—bride price? House? Car?—just name them.”

“Shut up! That’s my daughter-in-law! My daughter-in-law!” the owner shouted, completely destroying Zheng Chuan’s worldview.

She waved a soup ladle, shrieking hysterically, “This bastard keeps coming around trying to seduce my daughter-in-law!”

“Today I’ll kill you, you hear me?!”

“What the hell… Brother She, you…” Zheng Chuan was stunned. “That’s someone else’s wife! And you’re openly flirting?”

“If this were ancient times, you’d be drowned in a pig cage.”

The restaurant owner lost all control. She even grabbed a kitchen knife and charged at him.

The girl desperately held her back, shouting at Qing She, “Leave! Don’t come back again! Just go!”

Qing She clenched his fists, veins bulging on his forehead.

He was clearly about to lose it. If this continued, someone was going to die.

Zheng Chuan quickly hugged Qing She tightly. “Brother She, let’s go. We’re in the wrong this time. Let me figure something out back home, okay?”
