Chapter 4: Su Qinghuan, Do You Even Have a Heart?

“Let him go!” Su Qinghuan was both shocked and furious. “Gu Yunshen is bleeding so much. Are you trying to kill him?!”

Qin Chuan suddenly burst into loud laughter. His voice was hoarse, choked with emotion.

“Su Qinghuan! Five years ago, when the Su Group was on the verge of bankruptcy, did you think those so-called benefactors who reached out to help just fell from the sky? That was me! One after another, I begged them for you like a pathetic dog!”

“Back then, when your father was buried in gambling debts and taken hostage, I risked my life to drag him back from the jaws of death!”

“That knife I took for you. If it had been even a centimeter off, it would have pierced my heart! And you? You barely stepped into the hospital even a few times!”

“Even the custom dress you’re wearing today…”

Qin Chuan’s gaze swept over her luxurious skirt, filled with mockery. “I ran through three cities, begging everywhere to get the designer drafts and that rare silk for it!”

“Su Qinghuan, from head to toe, which part of you isn’t soaked in my blood?!”

“And you? On our wedding anniversary, you let another man walk into our home and act intimate right in front of me!”

“He smashed the plates and framed me! And you didn’t even believe a single word I said!”

Qin Chuan’s eyes were filled with bone-deep sorrow. “Su Qinghuan, are you really that stupid?!”

Wedding anniversary?

Su Qinghuan’s face instantly turned deathly pale.

She… had really forgotten.

She wanted to explain, her lips trembling, but not a single word came out.

She was wrong… she really seemed to have done something terribly wrong.

On their wedding anniversary, she had gone to pick up Gu Yunshen, drank with him, and even… brought him home, right in front of her husband…

Seeing things turn unfavorable, Gu Yunshen struggled to get up. “Qinghuan! Don’t listen to his nonsense! He’s just a useless man living off you. How could he possibly have saved the Su Group?”

“He’s deliberately saying these emotional things to manipulate you, to make you soft-hearted. Don’t fall for it!”

Qin Chuan spat in anger and kicked him hard again.

“Ah!” Gu Yunshen let out a miserable scream and collapsed onto the ground like a dead dog.

“You can’t treat him like this!” Fear and unfamiliarity gripped Su Qinghuan as she screamed and threw herself over Gu Yunshen, shielding him with her body.

“What? Now you feel sorry for him?” Qin Chuan’s voice was icy, as if it came from the depths of hell.

“What about me?” He stared into Su Qinghuan’s eyes, asking word by word, “All these years, have you ever… felt even a little sorry for me? Even a little?!”

He yanked Su Qinghuan aside, his iron fist carrying five years of suppressed rage as it slammed into Gu Yunshen’s face.

Crack!

The sharp sound of a broken nose was chilling. Blood spurted out instantly, staining Gu Yunshen’s carefully groomed chin and splashing onto Su Qinghuan’s expensive dress.

“Aren’t you good at pretending to be innocent?!”

“Aren’t you fond of playing those manipulative tricks?!”

“Act! Keep acting! Let Su Qinghuan see just how pitiful you are!”

Su Qinghuan went mad, pounding Qin Chuan’s back. “Enough! Qin Chuan! Stop!”

“If you dare touch him again, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”

Qin Chuan froze.

Time seemed to stand still.

After a long moment, he let out a bleak laugh and slowly loosened his grip.

Gu Yunshen, covered in blood and trembling with fear, collapsed to the ground like a heap of mud.

“Su Qinghuan…” Qin Chuan’s voice was exhausted and hollow. “Is your heart made of stone? Do you even… have a heart left?!”

Su Qinghuan’s heart trembled violently, but her pride kept her from bowing her head. “I…”

“Enough!” Qin Chuan cut her off. His eyes were colder and more resolute than ever before.

“Su Qinghuan, from this day forward, all ties between us are severed. Life and death, we go our separate ways!”

“For the rest of our lives, you go your way, I go mine. We will have nothing more to do with each other!”

With that, he turned abruptly and strode toward the door. His back was straight and resolute, completely different from the submissive and patient man he used to be.

“Qin Chuan!”

“Where are you going?! Stop right there!”

Seeing his determined figure, panic surged in Su Qinghuan’s heart, and she chased after him instinctively.

Qin Chuan did not stop or turn back. His voice was as cold as ice. “There’s no need for Miss Su to worry about me.”

“You… you think this can scare me?!”

Qin Chuan paused briefly at the doorway.

“Su Qinghuan,” his voice was calm but filled with piercing disdain, “you think too highly of yourself.”

Before she could respond, he pulled open the door and stepped out into the howling wind and icy rain without looking back.

Bang!

The door slammed shut with a deafening sound, making the crystal chandelier tremble slightly.

The echo lingered through the empty mansion like a funeral bell.

Looking at the mess on the floor, the bloodstains, and Gu Yunshen curled up in pain, Su Qinghuan suddenly felt an overwhelming emptiness… and a deep, bone-chilling fear.

Gu Yunshen struggled to his feet, wiping the blood from his face, his tone filled with contempt. “Qinghuan, don’t worry. That useless man will come back tomorrow wagging his tail, kneeling and begging for your forgiveness!”

“When that happens, don’t go soft on him. How dare he treat us like this? He deserves to die!” His eyes burned with venomous hatred.

He had never suffered such humiliation in his life. If he did not take revenge, he would not be worthy of his name.

But… his goal had been achieved. Su Qinghuan and the Su Group would eventually fall into his hands. He would be the one who laughed last.

Su Qinghuan collapsed onto the floor, staring blankly at the increasingly heavy rain outside. Her mind was in chaos. “You don’t understand him… this time… it feels like he really…”

Gu Yunshen scoffed. “Really what? Without you, Miss Su, what is he? Sleeping under a bridge?”

Su Qinghuan said nothing.

Qin Chuan’s cold, unfamiliar gaze before he left, as if looking at something dead, replayed again and again in her mind, unsettling her deeply.

Three years… she had never seen that look in his eyes before.

Seeing her lost in thought, a shadow flickered in Gu Yunshen’s eyes. He endured the pain and stepped forward. “The floor is cold. Get up.”

“Huanhuan, with me here, I’ll never let you get hurt again!” He tried to help her up.

But Su Qinghuan remained motionless, staring out at the pouring rain. It reminded her of five years ago… the day she first met Qin Chuan…

Aunt Wang, who had been standing silently in the corner, sighed deeply as she watched everything.

She was just a housekeeper, yet she saw more clearly than anyone.

She understood Mr. Qin’s suffering. Perhaps… leaving this cold and heartless Miss Su and this icy household would be his salvation.

…

The cold wind cut like blades, and icy rain lashed against his face.

Qin Chuan walked aimlessly through the empty streets, drenched to the bone, yet he felt no cold.

Because his heart had already frozen into ice.

“Heh… how ridiculous…” he muttered.

Three years of wholehearted devotion, giving everything he had, and this was the outcome.

From now on, Qin Chuan would live only for himself.

He would never again be a pitiful beggar for love.

Love? Not even dogs would bother with it.

Boom!

A pale bolt of lightning tore through the dark sky.

In that instant, it illuminated the ancient bronze ring on his left ring finger.

The intricate patterns on the ring seemed to shimmer faintly under the light, as if alive.

Qin Chuan froze, staring at the only keepsake his mother had left him.

Memories surged like a tide.

Since he could remember, he had wandered with his mother. When he was eight years old, she solemnly placed this ring on his small finger.

Strangely, the ring automatically adjusted to fit perfectly.

Her expression had been complicated as she repeatedly told him, “Chuan’er, protect it… even if it costs you your life…”

The next morning, she vanished without a trace, leaving him alone with fear and confusion, struggling to survive.

Until he met Su Qinghuan in Tianhai… he thought he had found salvation, a reason to live.

Until five years ago…

A group of cold, imposing men in black found him, knelt respectfully, and addressed him as “Young Prince.”

Only then did he learn that his never-seen father came from a mysterious and ancient thousand-year-old family, the Qin Royal Mansion.

His father wanted him to return, acknowledge his lineage, and inherit the supreme position.

To him, it all felt like a fantasy.

And back then, for Su Qinghuan, for that ridiculous love, he had resolutely refused to return. He gave up the honor of being the Young Prince and even… abandoned the chance to uncover the truth behind his mother’s disappearance.

Thinking of this, Qin Chuan let out a self-mocking smile, uglier than crying.

His love had finally rotted completely.

Like his shattered heart, it could never be pieced back together.

“Su Qinghuan… from now on, we owe each other nothing. We’ll never meet again.”

Once he dealt with this messy divorce, he would return.

Back to the Qin family. He would take back everything that belonged to him and claim his position as Young Prince.

Only then would he have the power to uncover the truth behind his mother’s disappearance.

But… those adopted sons and daughters in the Qin family, all eyeing him like predators, would not let him succeed easily. A struggle over bloodline and identity was inevitable.

The rain grew heavier, pouring down as if it would drown the entire city.

Ten minutes later.

Qin Chuan pushed open the heavy doors of “Blazing Heat” Bar.

A wave of warm air mixed with cheap alcohol, strong perfume, and noisy chatter hit him.

He walked straight to the darkest corner and slumped down.

“Whiskey. Neat. Ten glasses,” he ordered hoarsely.

The amber liquid soon filled the table, swaying under the dim lights, reminding him of Su Qinghuan’s eyes that had once captivated him.

He grabbed a glass and drained it in one go.

One glass… two glasses… three glasses…

He had given up the throne and the truth of his mother’s disappearance, only to end up living a life trampled into dust.

How utterly ridiculous.

“Qin Chuan?”

A lazy yet pleasantly surprised female voice cut through the noise and reached his ears.

Accompanied by the cold, lingering scent of expensive perfume, a fiery and alluring figure appeared beside his seat, like a dark blossom blooming in the night.

Qin Chuan turned his head sluggishly.

He met a pair of captivating phoenix eyes, mesmerizing and enchanting.

The woman was barefoot in black crystal high heels adorned with sparkling diamonds. A dark red velvet qipao clung to her curvaceous figure, accentuating every breathtaking contour.

Two golden buttons at her chest were undone, revealing a large expanse of fair skin.

Below her delicate collarbones hung a vivid jade pendant, swaying gently and reflecting a mysterious green glow, like the gaze of a predator in the abyss.

This was a woman of almost otherworldly beauty.

Qin Chuan’s muddled mind cleared for a moment, his voice thick with alcohol and shock.

This enchantress… why was she here?
